**Job Description** :

There is an exciting opportunity in the cell line development (CLD) group to support the foundation for successful biologics production. The successful candidate will be developing the protein engineering function and capabilities. The candidate should be eager to take on new tasks, sometimes with minimal direction, to help drive innovation and improve biologics production. Primary responsibilities will be to model protein structures from primary sequence, use that information to identify potential sequence liabilities and to recommend protein sequence modifications to improve the manufacturability of the drug candidate. Additional responsibilities will include support of client programs as a technical resource, specifically supporting programs with protein refolding challenges.

The successful candidate should be proficient in protein modeling techniques, especially homology modeling, and able to use and interpret those models. The Scientist II will program the companys own structural modeling tool and write code for streamlining efforts to input a primary sequence and output figures, data, and even analysis of the structure to understand and present potential manufacturing liabilities both internally and to clients. A working knowledge of product quality attributes (e.g. aggregation) associated with therapeutic protein production is highly desirable.

The candidate should also be proficient in standard wet-lab biology practices including pipetting, note-booking, sterile technique, as well as chemical usage and storage. Standard wet-lab techniques for analyzing proteins (i.e. SDS-PAGE or SDS-CE) are highly desirable. Protein chemistry and thermodynamics knowledge is useful to support client refolding programs.

A working knowledge of unit operations for protein expression and purification, is desirable for interaction and support of upstream and downstream process development groups. In addition to protein modeling or computational biology, experience in bioinformatics, protein chemistry, protein manufacturing, or metabolic modeling is a plus.

Major Responsibilities/Activities
