Process Engineer

The process engineer will be responsible for the development of tools, equipment and/or gauges and the development of manufacturing processes in a broad range of areas of a Pilot Manufacturing Process Development Center. Primary technical areas of process development include fluid mechanics and the development and optimization of controlled fluid flow systems both liquid and gas. Heat transfer and thermal systems management are also key technical areas of concentration. Finally, electrical systems particularly related to energy storage devices and their production is involved. May supervise and direct a small to medium size group of employees engaged in specialized and/or varied tasks.

**Primary Responsibilities:**

+ Assume full ownership of process definition, requirements and execution in areas of responsibility including the definition of process steps, definition of process capability requirements, definition of equipment requirements, defining (with operations) equipment setup and maintenance requirements and all other aspects necessary to achieve proper execution and capability for each process step.

+ Develop, configure and optimize industrial processes from inception to start up and certification/validation including the design and implementation of fluid flow systems.

+ Assess processes, gather and interpret data, reach conclusions, make recommendations/changes to improve existing processes

+ Design, run, test and conduct experiments to upgrade systems and processes

+ Develop and maintain process related documentation

+ Ensure processes are reliable and safe and enabled on a variety of manufacturing systems

+ Develop best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs and quality of output

+ Characterize process capabilities using SPC and other statistical methods, identify incapable processes and develop/execute plans to bring them to a capable state

+ Generate detailed experimental and industrial plans and reports documenting process requirements, identifying critical characteristics and variables and develop initial documentation of process requirements

+ Define, specify, utilize and maintain testing and measurement equipment specific to unique processes

+ Develop and implement process related systems that optimize all phases of production process steps related to the area of responsibility

+ Identify and advise on corrective actions for incapable and otherwise faulty processes/systems

+ Work closely and in conjunction with equipment designers and manufacturing personnel to develop a cost effective and working production process

+ Develop project scope and details and execution plans to ensure process related projects are completed on time and within estimated costs

+ Research, identify, assess, evaluate and understand new manufacturing technology potentially leading to specifications and potential purchase/procurement recommendations.

+ Identify process Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for each process and process step in the area of responsibility. Define measurement methods and tracking requirements. Ensure the process KPIs are monitored and the process is operating as required to achieve acceptable KPI performance. Interpret KPI data and implement adjustments to the process to achieve conformance with KPI requirements.

+ Develop process modifications with Process Technicians and train Process Technicians on the proper methods of tracking and monitoring KPIs.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

+ Bachelors degree with a major in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering or other engineering discipline

+ Minimum 3 years experience as a process engineer in a technology development environment

+ Experience with energy storage device manufacturing and function is considered a plus

+ Training and hands on capability with a variety of computer applications and tools including statistical software packages and database applications

+ Theoretical and practical project engineering knowledge

+ Knowledge of techniques and tools applied in the field of technology and product

+ Experience in strategic planning, risk management and/or change management

+ Experience in managing and delivering pilot scale processes developed on new and existing equipment

+ Experience with fluid and gas handling systems, chillers and heaters is considered a plus

+ High level of analytical ability and critical thinking applied to solve complex problems in a stimulating and challenging new product and technology environment

+ Hands on bias with a practical application of knowledge and experience necessary.

+ Experience with general machining / CNC machine and hands on fabrication processes considered a positive

+ Experimental design and execution along process capability assessment and optimization

+ Engineering and scientific report writing skills

+ Thorough knowledge of tooling and manufacturing processes.

+ Experience in CAD and CAE tools, Solid Works
