Product Development Technician Food Industry!





Kelly Scientific Resources is currently seeking a Product Development Technician for one of our top major food clients in Austin, TX.



As a Product Development Technician, you will be responsible for product Developers and Specification Analyst to evaluate vendor-proposed product samples and related specifications for new and existing food products and consumer goods. Coordinate product cuttings and assist Product Developers with Sensory Evaluation Program management. Assist with ongoing product evaluations and quality reviews. Supporting Product Development team with administrative duties.




+ Lead the cooking / preparing / presenting of samples for all cuttings; code all product samples

+ Setup and breakdown all cutting sessions; cleanup and organize test kitchen as necessary

+ Work with the Product Developers to conduct product cuttings and periodic quality reviews

+ Assist Product Developers with basic research, data analysis and cutting results and recommendations

+ Evaluate and finalize product preparation and cooking instructions for Exclusive Brands products

+ Shop for and otherwise acquire samples from WFM stores and competing grocers as necessary

+ Administer and coordinate IQ team category review activities and materials; prepare materials for distribution

+ Administer and coordinate IQ team product photography and competitive comparison program activities

+ Assist with scheduling of product evaluations and invitation of participants; manage participant incentive programs

+ Assist with the evaluation of compliance specifications as they relate to vendor product samples (when necessary)

+ Conduct approval activities for First production samples: weighing samples, verifying correct label info, organoleptic evaluation, verify cooking or prep instructions

+ Manage the disposition of samples after initial cuttings and First Production approvals

+ Manage and maintain all Test Kitchen Policies and Procedures for the team

+ Assist in the development of and maintenance of Sensory Evaluation program policies and procedures

+ Assure accuracy and integrity of information by upholding core values, quality and brand standards

+ Collect and route supporting technical information as necessary to support team administration

+ Develop and implement methods and procedures to assist in interdepartmental communication & project monitoring.

+ Perform other miscellaneous product development and administrative duties as necessary

+ Work on special projects as assigned such as evaluating competitive product, and application of new processes and technologies.



Requirements and Qualifications




+ Bachelors degree in Food Science, Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Quality Assurance or related field

+ Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and deliver against rapid development timelines

+ Must be detail oriented and extremely organized

+ Will have computer proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications



Preferences




+ 2 years experience working in the consumer-packaged goods industry

+ Experience developing natural and organic products is a plus

+ Sensory evaluation experience and skills are a plus

+ A passion for food and strong culinary skills are a plus

+ Knowledge of food labeling and FDA/USDA regulations

+ General understanding of product development and commercialization

+ Familiarity of retailer web-based specification systems would be ideal.

+ Good typing skills and accuracy
