**Production Chemist II - San Diego, CA**



Shift: 3 x 12 schedule - Thursday-Saturday - 6am-7pm (4 hrs OT/day)



**Job Description**



**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**




+ Synthesize peptides (Boc & Fmoc Chemistry).

+ HF or TFA cleavage of peptides from resin.

+ Analyze crude peptides and interpret generated MS data.

+ Make necessary purification buffers.

+ Purify peptides using directed protocols.

+ Exchange peptides to the appropriate salt.

+ Weigh out the products and packing.

+ Operate within the GMP guidelines

+ Remove all waste from production area.

+ Ensure that all waste containers are properly labeled.

+ Adhere to policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.

+ Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment.

+ Represent with a high level of integrity and professionalism.

+ Completing SOP, MD, production plan, variances and deviations with minimum assistance.



**OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:**




+ Document all laboratory work in assigned note books and manufacturing documents per the GMPs as established

+ Perform other duties as assigned.



**WORKING CONDITIONS:**




+ Work areas are inside, in a climate-controlled environment with moderate to high background noise and minimal natural lighting. Position involves exposure to hazardous materials, fumes, odors, and dust.

+ Laboratory Equipment

+ PH Meter

+ HF Apparatus

+ HPLC - Preparative

+ Scales/Balance

+ Rotary Evaporator

+ Mass Spectrometer

+ Lyophilizer



**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:**




+ Ability to work established safety guidelines.

+ Good written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing or in person.

+ Accurate typing/keyboarding skills; solid computer skills, including the use of word processing and spreadsheet software applications.

+ Knowledge of laboratory techniques and basics of peptide chemistry.

+ Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good time-management, problem prevention, and problem-solving skills.

+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to motivate self.

+ Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.

+ Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

+ Ability to document work neatly and orderly.

+ Possess a work ethic that includes neatness, punctuality, and accuracy.



**QUALIFICATIONS:**




+ Bachelor's degree in Chemistry

+ Minimum 2 to 5 years experience in peptide purification preferably in an industry setting

+ Prior experience with method development & validation, and/or GMP regulated industry is a plus
