We are currently seeking a Production Editor for Scientific Journals to work with the NIH/National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park, NC.

**TASKS/SERVICES:** The contractor shall:
(1) Complete Production Checks by assessing the production quality of incoming manuscripts for _Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP)_ ; ensure that all relevant files are received and that they follow established guidelines.
(2) Input manuscript metadata into _EHP_ ’s production tracking system.
(3) Review copyedited materials to ensure that they follow _EHP_ ’s style guidelines, and that the author’s corrections have been properly implemented.
(4) Analyze the cause of copyediting errors; report findings to the appropriate staff.
(5) Review published materials on _EHP_ ’s online publishing platform for 508/WCAG compliance, as well as adherence to the style guide.
(6) Contribute to updates of the _EHP_ style guide.
(7) Work with the Operations Manager and Publications Coordinator on all aspects of scientific publishing to successfully publish and release new articles to the scientific community.
(8) Interface with _EHP_ ’s external contractors to monitor timeliness and quality of publication deliverables; report findings to the Operations Manager for verification.
(9) Work with authors to resolve problems with their proofs or manuscripts, per the established _EHP_ scientific publication guidelines.
(10) Coordinate updates to the _EHP_ website, including content, announcements, and author instructions, at the direction of the Operations Manager or staff.
(11) Monitor incoming queries from authors and readers; provide the information requested or route the query to the appropriate staff member.
(12) Review all _EHP_ documentation for consistency and usability; report problems and provide recommendations for improvement to the Operations Manager or staff; carry out improvements as directed.
(13) Track ongoing issues and problems; provide reports on the status of such problems to the Operations Manager or staff.

**REQUIREMENTS:** The contractor must have:
(1) Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
(2) Minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
(3) Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, and email clients such as Microsoft Outlook.
(4) Prior scientific/scholarly production publishing experience, preferably with scientific journals.
(5) Experience with production and/or publishing technology as well as some editing/copyediting experience.
(6) Familiarity with health and medical terms.
(7) Familiarity with math and statistics.
(8) Experience with the Editorial Manager/ProduXion Manager tracking system.
(9) Experience with XML specifically JATS/NLM and MathML preferred
(10) Experience using an online publishing platform or content management systems.
(11) Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
(12) Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
