Description Project Accountant - The Senior Project Accountant is responsible for understanding accounting principles and performing complex accounting activities and financial analyses. Responsible for project accounting and cost accounting requirements for projects, including day-to-day interface with project management, client and contractor personnel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ensure that project contractual requirements related to finance are followed by project team, subcontractors, and vendors. Mentor and provide leadership to Project Accountants. Coordinate monthly billing process with the project team s and subcontractors Complete and submit monthly applications to client according to contract terms and accurately record data in accounts receivable. Provide client and project team with additional information and provide supporting documentation for billings as requested. Research and resolve partial or unpaid receivables. Assist with reporting project financial status. Ensure accurate maintenance of project job cost ledgers; including compiling journal entries related to job costs. Update subcontractor pay when paid status, verify subcontractor compliance prior to authorizing release of payment, determine invoices to be released for payment, and ensure subcontractor payments are released timely according to contract terms. Research and resolve outstanding items on vendor statements. Maintain current and complete project files. Manage project financial close-out process. Responsible for understanding job site contract and making accounting decisions based on the contract. Exercise discretion and effectively communicate with Project Managers, regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services related to billing. Exercise professional judgement and decision making within the terms of the contract. The SPA will also cover all requirements of the Project Accountant role. Other duties as assigned. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Establish good working relationship with other team members. Foster positive communications and relationships with Personnel, subcontractors, and vendors. Keep up to date on industry trends and developments. Adhere to company policies and procedures. Actively participate in meetings as requested. JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor s degree in Accounting or Business Administration and five years Accounting experience preferred, equivalent experience in lieu of education may be considered. Ability to meet customer expectations. Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting functions. Ability to identify problems and make recommendations for resolution. Excellent communication and organization skills. Ability to multi task and work under tight deadlines. Ability to resolve conflicts and provide resolutions in a timely manner. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Frequent standing, walking and sitting. Frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds. Must be able to work at computer or desk area for extended periods of time.
