We are currently seeking a Public Affairs Specialist to work on-site with the NIH in Bethesda, MD.

**TASKS/SERVICES:** The contractor shall:

(1) Serve as lead for media relations and public affairs activities in the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Office of Communications and Public Liaison.

(2) Develop strategies for systematic media outreach to promote the NIMHD Director and NIMHDs research and related activities.

(3) Develop and maintain a media contacts database; write and clear media announcements; respond to media inquiries; maintain related database; manage NIH/HHS media; report clearances; develop medic monitoring reports; track news items related to minority health and health disparities with monthly reports on top stories.

(4) Represent the NIMHD on the NIH Press Officers group.

(5) Stay abreast of the NIMHD presentations, publications and program and select activities (e.g., workshops, research and training programs) and staff news as part of the role to share relevant and timely information with internal and external audiences.

(6) Produce and disseminate information about the NIMHD staff, including published research and presentations; maintain the NIMHD webpage and related information.

(7) Write, edit, clear and manage dissemination of content, including PowerPoint presentations, talking points, presentation descriptions and blog posts.

(8) Produce and disseminate information about the NIMHD staff, including published research, presentations and related information.

(9) Write, edit and clear content and manage information dissemination about NIMHD research programs and activities through internal and external communication channels, including institute and agency newsletters, websites, social media and video.

(10) Format articles, one-pagers, factsheets, email subscription announcements, and blog posts, along with promotional items related to NIMHD events, including in-person, videos, webinars and other mass communication venues.



**REQUIREMENTS:** The contractor ideally would have:

(1) Masters degree in English, Journalism, Mass Communications, Mass Media, Public Health or a related discipline; three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelors degree is equivalent to a Masters degree.

(2) Minimum of three (3) years of related experience working in local and national outlets, including bloggers.

(3) Mastery of English grammar, writing and editing principles, concepts and techniques and style requirements, along with strong oral communication skills.

(4) Thorough knowledge of and practice in print, broadcast and web-based media.

(5) Knowledge of federal communications policies and guidelines, including 508 compliance and digital media.

(6) Experience working on minority health and health disparities topics.

(7) Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
