Summary:



Conduct chemical and physical tests on incoming raw materials, components, and finished products using qualitative and quantitative techniques. Aide in the development/transfer of new analytical methods in support of new product development and continual improvements of existing products/processes. Ensure compliance with all applicable procedures / practices to include SOPs, specifications, safety, ISO and GMP regulations.



Scope of responsibilities includes analytical testing for GP, Soft, and IOL manufacturing operations along with new product development.



This position must be able to liaison with several internal functional areas including Manufacturing, Engineering, Facilities, Quality Assurance, Customer Fulfillment, Purchasing, and Regional Quality System Owners.



Effectively interact with external auditors, suppliers, customers and all other employees including corporate officers.



Responsibilities:



Conduct complex chemical and physical tests on raw materials, finished products, and components according to established procedures in support of GP, Soft, and IOL manufacturing.



Conduct physical and chemical testing required in support of new product development, process improvements, and validations including the transfer and validation of new analytical methods.



Operation of HPLC, GC, FTIR, and UV/Vis. As well as wet chemistry



Operate, maintain, and calibrate analytical laboratory instruments following prescribed written procedures to ensure that reproducible and precise data is obtained.



Write and review operating procedures for analytical methods / instrumentation.



Assist with laboratory investigations for OOS/OOT product.



Perform general laboratory housekeeping (cleaning and maintenance of the lab)



Support LEAN concepts (5S, Kaizen, etc.).





Requirements:



AS in Chemistry, Physical or Life Science with approximately three years equivalent experience



Skilled in the operation of HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV/Vis, dynamic mechanical analysis and other analytical instruments.



Analytical testing experience within a medical device manufacturing organization



Understanding of regulatory requirements (i.e GMP/ISO) pertaining to laboratory operations



Well organized with excellent record keeping skills,



Good communication and writing skills



Skilled in use of computers including word processing, spreadsheet, and databases



Familiarity with Lean principles
