**1** **st** **shift:** 5:30AM to 2PM



The Quality Control Instrument Technician is responsible for evaluating customer returned Sofia instruments and in-house Sofia instruments and assisting in complaint investigations. This individual is responsible for performing instrument triage and problem diagnosis. This individual will support commercialization of the Sofia instrument by providing technical support for customers, determining the failure mode for instrument complaints, and determining whether instrument problems are covered by manufacturer warranty, necessitating return to manufacturer. Analysis of field issues will also be used as feedback to R&D/Engineering for potential instrument upgrades or product improvements (hardware, firmware, software).



**Essential Functions:**




+ Perform functional and diagnostic testing of returned instruments from the field. Decontaminate and wipe patient data from instruments. Perform instrument triage and determine if instrument needs to be returned to LRE as covered under warranty or for repair. Working with instrumentation engineers, develop flow charts, procedures, and decision trees for instrument diagnosis and triage.

+ Perform complaint investigations in conjunction with QC Chemistry. Collaborate on Sofia technical failure analysis investigations and identify corrective actions to preclude recurrence. Provide call support to Technical Service team to assist in solving customer issues with Sofia instruments over the phone. Provide Tech Services feedback to ensure the troubleshooting guides used for customer issue resolution are updated.

+ Establish and maintain instrument lab. Ensure instrument tracking logs are maintained. Develop metrics for MTBF and other instrument reliability measures.

+ Support new product development/product improvement projects. Product regular feedback regarding observations and findings from investigations on Sofia instruments.

+ Carry out duties in compliance with established business policies.



**Interactions:**




1. Quality Control Technician/Chemists/Supervisor Collaborating on the development of weekly work schedules and maintaining timelines in meeting departmental and corporate goals. Work as a team to execute complaint investigations and document findings to ensure timely feedback to customers.

2. Materials Department Collaborating with the Supply Chain department in ensuring that equipment and material transactions are maintained for instrumentation. Regularly communicates with Supplier Manager to ensure all involved groups are aware of instrument status. Technical Support & Quality

3. Assurance Department Collaborating with the Technical Support and Quality Assurance departments in ensuring the timely completion of complaint investigations and providing the technical troubleshooting and product root cause failure analysis to define positive corrective actions to preclude recurrence.

4. Product Development/R&D/Engineering Ensuring quality systems support for product development and product improvement projects. Provides regular feedback to Instrumentation R&D personnel regarding issues with instruments that could lead to potential instrument upgrades or product improvements (hardware, firmware, software).



**Work Environment:** The work environment characteristics are representative of an office, laboratory, and manufacturing environment and include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues and samples. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines.



**Job Requirements**



**Education and Experience**




+ Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent work experience

+ 1-3 years experience in an instrument lab or manufacturing environment



**Knowledge/Skills:**




+ Instrument diagnosis experience

+ QSR & ISO-9001 laboratory experience

+ Understanding of integration between software, firmware, and hardware for analytical instrumentation

+ Sound mechanical and electrical skills

+ Technical troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis

+ Good communication and computer skills

+ Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high pace and dynamic working environment



The individual must have a technical background and a common-sense knowledge base to be able to make daily decisions regarding instrumentation, while working within defined regulations and timelines. This position requires the technical skills and experience to perform root cause failure analysis and assist in the resolution of technical instrument failures. The individual must be technically knowledgeable with respect to quality systems, analytical instrumentation testing methods, product software.
