**Quality Control Microbiologist** - San Diego, CA


The Microbiologist contributes to proper control of all aspects of Manufacturing LLC that may impact microbiological quality including; manufacturing processes and equipment, materials utilized, physical facilities, environmental conditions, specifications, cleaning and sanitization, sampling and testing, employees, personnel practices and procedures, etc.


+ Must maintain proficiency in all Microbiology laboratory methods, processes, and procedures.

+ Performs sampling and testing as required for environmental and personnel monitoring, samples of raw materials, in-process product, and finished product.

+ Performs sampling and testing as required for monitoring of critical systems, Purified Water, Clean Steam, etc.

+ Prepares testing apparatus, solutions, media, inoculum, cultures, and reagents as required.

+ Performs quantitative and qualitative microbiological tests for media controls, enumeration, absence of index organisms, classification and speciation, antimicrobial effectiveness, etc.

+ Performs testing in support of product development projects, investigations, and monitoring of utilities systems.

+ Performs laboratory investigations for out of specification (OOS) microbiological testing results, and other microbiological laboratory non-conformances using established procedures.

+ Performs testing, tasks, and documentation in support of validation studies including process validation/media fills, method validation, and development of microbiological methods.

+ Prepares samples for shipment to contract laboratories as required.

+ Trains and qualifies personnel for microbiological sampling and testing, and associated documentation. Trains microbiology technicians, reviews associated testing and documentation.

+ Performs calibration checks and performance checks of instrumentation and devices such as, but not limited to flow hood, pH meters, and balances.

+ Maintains lab supplies and inventory; requisitions needed materials.

+ Writes or proposes revisions to SOP, Microbiology Methods, Lab Reports, and related Forms as needed and instructed by Supervisor.

**Requirements/Qualifications** **:**

+ Bachelors degree in Biology, or related Science is required with 5 years experience working in an aseptic manufacturing facility.

+ Must be proficient in microbiology techniques and methodologies including membrane filtration methods, pour plate methods, gram stains, colony counting.

+ Experience in antimicrobial effectiveness testing, method validation, cleanroom practices, and equipment qualification preferred.

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.

+ Thorough understanding of cGMPs, ISO and USP standards.

+ Proficient in computer skills including report writing, data analysis using Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.

+ Knowledge of quality system and regulatory requirements pertaining to the production and sale of FDA regulated products.
