Client has an urgent need for a Quality Engineer- This is a Contract role, responsible for SPC (Statistical Process Control), Time Studies/ Machining/ Capability Studies, and also implementing corrective actions.


Two new Engineering roles in the Quality Department are opened in clients Orwell facility. The Contractor hired will keep Quality Engineering work caught up while these positions are being filled. The expectation is that the Contract Engineer will be someone motivated and driven to advance- someone that will apply directly and be successful for one of the two internal roles.

The Quality Engineer will build expertise and ownership that can then be translated into right first time, builds, with productivity gains and process improvement established as part of their PPM's. This roles is a data-driven role, that will analyze processes that can stand with customers and discuss the performance, application, and general quality of their product.


Key Responsibilities:

Ensure the quality of the parts produced at the Orwell facility meet all customer expectations; quickly and effectively take- action when non-conformances are found. Maintain the most recent interpretations of the quality system requirements and therefore ensure that documented practices meet the true interpretation of the quality management system standards.

Collaborate with Customers, and also Quality and Engineering personnel to determine critical part features and review manufacturability as it related to product quality.

Make recommendations to modify customer part specifications and tolerances as necessary to support cost-effective production.

Provide engineering support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques.

Resolve quality issues of capability, tolerancing, and materials related issues.

Resolve quality issues by identifying problems, examining solution options, implementing action plans, and providing resources.

Effectively communicate and reinforce Kennametals commitment to quality improvement efforts

Support & Lead PPAP efforts for Orwell facility, and lead product launches to meet customer requirements.

Determine when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes. Review and analyze results with Kennametals Engineering team. Recommend changes to processes based upon findings and perform follow up to verify effectiveness.

Provide support for updating, auditing, and maintaining the ISO Quality Management System.

Coordinate pre-launch production trial run process monitoring as necessary.

Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

Establish and Maintain Control Plans and FMEA's throughout the life of the part.

Facilitate and promote the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.

Coordinate with Sales, Engineering, Production Mgmt, and Production Associates, to resolve customer complaints and concerns.

Lead PPM improvement plan for strategic customers.

Lead implementation of an SPC data management system (in Minitab), in the Production Environment, ensure all data meets customers reporting requirements to ensure Orwell is proactively responding to out-of-control processes.


Key Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Engineering preferred.

Experience managing a certified quality management system (e.g. IATF, ISO).

Background with SPC (Statistical Process Control), Time Studies/ Machining/ Capability Studies, and also implementing corrective actions. Client used Minitab; background with Statistics packages/ data analysis packages.

Exceptional mechanical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical processes).

Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.

Experience in the aerospace, medical, automotive industry preferred.

Proficient with Corrective Action, Root Cause Analysis.

Customer quality assurance experience.

Previous audit experience preferred.

Certified Quality Engineer (CQE-ASQ) preferred.
