**Engineering Technician (Menlo Park, CA)**

Monday - Friday; day shift

Temporary Assignment until June 2021, possible extension

Our client is an exciting biomedical company that has developed an innovative, proprietary, point-of-care molecular diagnostics platform - they have also recently developed a rapid COVID-19 assay test that runs on this platform.? As a valued member of our engineering team, you will join a group of highly engaged, focused, and collaborative engineers to manage hardware delivery timelines. You will be critical to ensuring the Consumable is built efficiently, and with a quality mindset.

Position Responsibilities:

+ Support the engineering group with testing in the lab from development through production

+ Support integration and verification activities through part and instrument inspection and testing

+ Support engineering process development with internal sample production and process control experiments.

+ Organize the engineering laboratory including maintaining the stock of hand tools, fasteners, fluidic fittings and electrical components.

+ Maintain engineering tool calibration log and coordinating with external calibration vendors.

+ Ensure that safe laboratory practices are followed, and safety tools and equipment are available.

+ Support product development with assembly instruction feedback including design and process revisions, and creating fixtures to improve product manufacturability.

Qualifications Education and Experience:

+ Minimum of 1-2 years experience working in the engineering lab environment supporting research and development engineers with part fabrication, mechanical hardware and electrical cable assembly and test.

+ Expert experience working with mechanical fabrication and assembly tools including basic machine shop equipment.

+ Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience assembling and debugging bench top and prototype instruments from engineering sketches and preliminary documentation.

+ Understanding of basic fluidic, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical design principles.

+ Experience operating and maintaining sophisticated engineering equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters, laser welders and optical inspection microscopes.

+ Familiarity with lab safety protocols and the materials and tools required for the lab environment.

+ Regular hands-on experience completing assembly and testing tasks, including test data files, engineering drawings, assembly procedures and specifications.

Work Environment

+ The essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

+ This position may involve a combination of office and biotechnology laboratory environments.

+ The employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, and automated equipment.

Physical Demands

+ The employee spends from 90 of the time in the lab which may involve standing or sitting.

+ The remaining time the employee is writing and documenting or participating in internal meetings.

+ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

+ This is a full-time position.

+ Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
