Description **R&D Lab Technician Baton Rouge, LA**

Kelly Scientific Resources is looking for an R&D Lab Technician for a pharmaceutical company in the Baton Rouge, LA area. This is a contract to hire role. Monday-Friday on the 1st shift (8:00 AM-4:30 PM)

**Essential Functions and Duties:**

**1** . Performs activities in support of the development of personal health care products under the direction of the R&D Laboratory Manager. Such activities include, but are not limited to:

**a** . Ordering raw materials for use in new or existing products and maintaining a current inventory of all such materials.

**b** . Preparing sample products for targeted applications based on defined specifications such as appearance, odor, color, gloss, density, viscosity, pH, thermal stability, bioactivity, and/or other relevant parameters and maintaining an inventory of all such samples.

**c** . Testing or otherwise evaluating sample products in accordance with written protocols prescribed by the R&D Laboratory Manager and/or the Chief Science Officer.

**d** . Maintaining the laboratory’s technical documents library.

**e** . Performing laboratory housekeeping.

**2** . Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Performance Measures:**

**1** . Required raw materials are ordered in a timely manner, and the laboratory’s inventory of such materials is current and accurate.

**2** . The formulation, testing, and/or evaluation of sample products are performed in an efficient and timely manner in accordance with prescribed protocols, accurately documented, and reported to the R&D Laboratory Manager.

**3** . The laboratory’s inventory of product samples is current and accurate.

**4** . The laboratory’s technical documents library is maintained.

**5** . The laboratory is clean and orderly.

**6** . Other assigned duties are completed timely in an efficient and effective manner.

**Qualifications:**

**1. Education:** A Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree from an accredited university; chemistry major preferred.

**2. Experience:** One (1) year related work experience in a lab setting.

**3** . **Skills: a.** Familiarity with laboratory equipment.

**b** . Good organizational and time management skills.

**c** . Communication using the spoken and written word.

d. Use of Microsoft Office including Excel.

**4.** **Abilities** : **a.** Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and complex instructions and to deal with complex problems involving many variables. **b** . Mathematics: Ability to perform basic math skills and use decimals to compute ratios and percents.

**c.** Language: Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5-6,000 words; read at a moderate rate; define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation; speak in simple sentences using correct subject-verb conjugation; and write complex sentences using proper punctuation.

**d.** Adaptability: Ability to accept constructive criticism; ability and willingness to be taught and to teach and train others.

**5** . **Attributes: a.** Well organized.

**b.** Attentive to details and accurate.

**c.** Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

**d.** Cooperative and willing to assist others.

**Physical Activities and Requirements:**


1. **Hand and Finger Dexterity:** Ability to use hands and fingers to grasp and manipulate objects.
2. **Speech:** Ability to convey detailed and important information and/or instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
3. **Hearing:** Ability to hear within the normal range to engage in conversations and to receive instructions.
4. **Sight:** Ability to see within normal parameters in order to inspect and prepare materials.
5. **Repetitive Motions:** Ability to use wrists, hands, and/or fingers frequently, regularly, and repetitively in order to grasp and manipulate objects.
6. **Physical Strength:** Ability to stand and lift, move, and manipulate objects of various sizes, shapes, and weight for extended periods of time. Routinely lifts containers weighing from 5 to 15 pounds. May exert up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally.
7. **Mobility:** Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time.
**Working Conditions:** Conditioned laboratory space.

**Hazards:** Exposure to some hazardous chemicals.
