Description **R&D Scientist I, San Diego, CA**

**Position Summary:** The Research and Development Scientist I is responsible for performing multiple functions in company's Product Development Laboratory. His or her duties include developing innovative processes that will be used to streamline existing manufacturing procedures for a recently-approved FDA immunoassay and next-generation immunoassays.

**Pay Range:** open depending on experience

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

+ Optimize ELISA-based biomarker assay manufacturing processes
+ Design and perform protein biochemistry and antibody characterization studies to troubleshoot manufacturing processes
+ Manage multiple projects simultaneously, taking initiative, and working independently
+ Present data internally and externally
+ Regular attendance is required and individual must be readily available and responsive during scheduled working hours.
+ Other duties as assigned by company management
**Job Requirements:**

+ Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry or a related biomedical science field
+ Minimum of three (3+) years' relevant industry experience.
+ Familiar with Microsoft Windows environment (Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet). Experience with statistical analyses (i.e. Sigma plot) preferred
+ Ability to follow instructions and understand workplace materials.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required along with the ability to effectively and professionally communicate with coworkers and management.
**Physical Demands**
In order to perform the essential job functions of this position, some physical demands are required. Physical requirements include sufficient physical ability and mobility as the individual may be expected to sit or stand at a computer/laboratory workstation for prolonged periods of time and may be required to stoop, bend, crawl, kneel, crouch, reach or twist; an ability to handle, lift, push or carry equipment at varying weights and measurements up to 20 lbs. The individual will also perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination in the operation of the Company's tools and equipment.

The individual's vision, with or without correction, must permit the individual to see in normal visual ranges, including up close, color and/or peripheral vision, and permit the individual to determine ranges of depth or distance perception, and have the ability to adjust or focus. The individual must also be able to hear within normal ranges.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to chemical and biological materials. The noise level in the work environment .is usually moderate and that of a typical office environment.
