**Work Type: Full-Time, On-Site, Direct-Hire**


**Job Summary:**

Kelly has one immediate opening for a highly motivated and creative R&D Scientist to join our location in Oceanside, CA. This position seeks a researcher who has knowledge and experience in working at the interface of materials chemistry and engineering. A successful candidate will be comfortable working in a rapidly changing R&D environment, be able to take direction to complete tasks efficiently and be able to quickly learn new skills and techniques to advance the project. You will be part of an interdisciplinary R&D team focusing on green energy applications such as CO2 electrochemical conversion.


**Essential Job Requirements:**

- Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent in engineering, or appropriate combination of degree and experience

- Experience with basic lab-scale chemistry practices and electrochemistry techniques

- Experience with fabrication and testing of electrochemical devices and understanding of basic electrical engineering and materials chemistry concepts

- Able to multitask in several different scientific and engineering disciplines and strong problem solving and troubleshooting ability

- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

- Able to search scientific and patent literature to widen knowledge of a field and find answers to specific questions

- Strong awareness of safety of chemicals and reactions, ability to handle materials that are sensitive to air, light, and moisture

- Highly motivated and self-driven individual with the ability to work independently, and multi-task under aggressive timeline to support team and corporate objectives


**Preferred qualification:**

- Experience with electrochemical device fabrication (electrolyzer, fuel cell) with direct experience with CO2 electrolysis cells preferred

- Understanding of electrochemistry, electrochemical techniques with electrocatalyst and/or ion conducting membrane development and evaluation experience a plus

- Proven ability to follow detailed SOPs and perform analytical techniques such as GC, GPC, LC-MS, FTIR, UV-Vis, NMR, SEM, TGA, DSC, cyclic voltammetry and electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)

- Broad interests and willingness to take on challenges, excellent problem-solving abilities, creativity and ability to work in cross-functional teams


**Duties and Responsibilities:**

- Participate in the development of CO2 electrolysis cells and related materials

- Execute defined experiments and tasks as well as design and conduct experiments and troubleshoot problems

- Maintain excellent laboratory records, and write reports and research summaries as required

- Interact closely with other scientists to develop comprehensive solutions

- Participate in intellectual property creation


**Physical Job Requirements:**


Office/Lab environment. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad or to write, as well as talk and hear. They are required to stand, walk or sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
