Our client in Chemical Manufacturing is currently hiring a Reliability Engineer to replace a retiree. This role is a Direct Hire. Client is located on 7.5 acres in Cincinnati, and makes powder containing noble metals that go into catalytic converters (they do precipitation processes with chemicals).

This Reliability Engineer will help with capital projects, look at equipment and establish PM programs to sustain reliability. They will also lead efforts managing mechanical integrity and time between failures. The right person for this role will be a degreed Engineer thats a hands-on, problem solver that can think outside the box. Mechanical or Chemical or Industrial Engineering degree preferred.

Develop, maintain, and coordinate PM/PdM maintenance program.

Coordinate activities & priorities with Eng. & Operations departments on process changes and capital expenditures.

Which require approval by higher authority:

Capital investment recommendations.

Primary Function:

The Reliability Engineer will be based in the Cincinnati, OH site and support both the Cincinnati Site and Alorton Site (E. St. Louis, IL). This position is responsible for leading the effort to continually increase the reliability of process and utility equipment at both sites. Efforts will always include the highest standards with regard to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) practices along with cost effective programs and solutions.

The Reliability Engineers primary focus is to develop cost effective equipment strategies for all equipment and facilities at both plants. As such, the Engineer will work with plant personnel and the NA Industrial Manager to develop the strategic and tactical plans to attain that goal. The plans will include the PM/PdM program(s), standards, analytical processes, documentation management and KPIs. The plans will also consider the need to be involved in other, on-going initiatives such as Manufacturing Excellence programs (including TPM), projects, and personnel development.

The Reliability Engineer will spend approximate amounts of time on the following initiatives:

50% technical solutions to long-standing problems.

15% developing, implementing and optimizing the PM/PdM program.

15% Maintain the Solvay mechanical integrity (MI) program along with appropriate documentation to assure compliance with federal, state, local, and internal regulatory compliance standards.

10% developing and implementing reliability projects and as a technical resource on other capital projects.

10% training of plant personnel on technical issues.


Customer Orientation:

Support the business continuity plan (BCP) through the implementation and coordination of a world-class PM/PdM maintenance program.

Participate in customer visits and provide the resources needed for customer visits.

Support ISO 14001:2015 & ISO 9001:2015 compliance as required.

Adhere to process safety and the Management of Change procedure.

Control of Risks Related to Product:

Develop, maintain, and coordinate the administration of a world class PM/PdM maintenance program for the plant(s) including inspection procedures, frequencies, employee training, quality assurance, deficiency mitigation, auditing, and records management, to encompass corporate and legal requirements such as MI, RC 14001:2015 and ISO 9001:2015 certification.

Work with the production and technical departments to develop critical equipment lists, spare parts inventory, and reliability strategies for the critical equipment.

Monitor the work order system to identify opportunities for improvement by eliminating repeat failures.

Assist maintenance and operations personnel as needed in day-to-day equipment trouble-shooting.

Support the maintenance departments in the planning and coordination of PM and MI activities.

Control of HSE Risks:

Fully participate in plant(s) HSE initiatives including required training to fulfill obligations established by law, corporate policy, and site requirements.

Represent internal team through daily actions that reinforce corporate values, demonstrating a personal commitment to a safe, healthy, and environmentally sound workplace for employees. Lead by example.

Maintain the Mechanical Integrity (MI) program and documentation to assure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.

Evaluate performance of on-site maintenance contractors, as appropriate.

Conduct periodic inspections/audits to assure compliance with existing safety rules and procedures to assess the effectiveness and need for other risk-reduction activities.

Coordinate investigations of equipment related incident/accidents that may occur in plant(s). Ensure all identified corrective actions are completed.

Impact on Product Quality & HSE Aspects:

Develop and refine plant equipment technical specifications and standards.

Failure analysis and corrective action support for maintenance technicians.

Support the effort to routinely review, update, and maintain Process FMEAs.

Use predictive technologies combined with historical information to identify dominant deterioration and failure modes, causes/effects of deterioration, and corrective actions required (failure analysis and mitigation)

Develop engineering solutions to maintenance problems, including ways of reducing or eliminating the need for maintenance through equipment replacement or improvement of work practices.

Human Resources:

Improve communication between departments at the plants whenever possible.

Continuously upgrade personal technical skill levels to assure application of best available technology and techniques for addressing maintenance/reliability issues.

Define and implement equipment filing systems, both electronic (SAP and LAN) and hard copy.

Cost & Capital Resources:

Work closely with operations departments in solving problems required to maximize the OEE of the plant.

Identify, scope, and execute small capital projects associated with improving plant reliability. Recommend and specify capital needs.

Support ME initiatives (SOLMAX, SOLWOM, 5S, KanBan, TEC, etc.) and champion TPM.

Support project engineers in the recommendation and specification of equipment for providing the plant with a reliable and robust installation.

Support development of short- and long-range site plans.

Perform maintenance optimization analysis to identify savings opportunities.


Requires 2-5-years of experience in an industrial, production environment with 2+ years in maintenance or reliability.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Good computer skills with working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.

Strong knowledge of plant reliability practices, preventive/predictive maintenance practices, mechanical integrity, failure analysis, continuous improvement, and efficiency measurement.

Computer-Based Maintenance Management Systems (SAP knowledge a plus).

Working knowledge of manufacturing practices and process optimization (familiarity with batch and continuous processing a plus).

Familiarity with Industrial Hygiene concepts and Personal Protective Equipment.

Understanding of OSHA standards relating to personnel and the impact of mechanical equipment and instruments on process safety.

Physically capable of moving throughout the plant, climbing ladders and stairs. Lifting up to 50 lbs. as-needed.
