**Research and Development Engineer Pryor, Oklahoma**

The Associate Engineer works with R&D teams to plan and execute process & product development projects for activated carbon. R&D takes place in lab, pilot and plant settings and may involve some travel. May provide leadership to Interns and Research Associates on design, construction, operation, and maintenance of experimental apparatuses. Examples of recent projects areas include development of steam and chemical activation processes at lab scale, designing & performing lab scale activation studies, development of lab scale extrusion capability, and sample & equipment preparation for large-scale trials.

$75k-80K DOE


Assists in diverse areas of R&D to contribute innovations, new designs, and new techniques to advance the state of activated carbon materials synthesis, processing, and characterization.

Applies design of experiments in planning experiments. Generates, analyzes, and interprets data and draws well-reasoned conclusions.

Works with interns and Research Associates to develop new equipment capabilities.

Documents research activities. Summarizes and interprets results using graphics and statistics.

Initiates and maintains contacts with key technical resources.

Interacts with other researchers to share scientific knowledge.

Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.

Works in compliance with Management of Change and all other Process Safety Management procedures.

Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care Management System.

Planning and basic project management skills to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.


BS/MS Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or related.

New Product Development and Research Experience.

Experience with operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation.

Technical knowledge to define and solve scientific problems, specifically around analytical instrumentation.

Expanded knowledge of chemistry & materials science as it pertains to equipment and processing of materials.

Capabilities in accurate control and analysis of process variables.

Strong problem-solving skills, written and oral communication skills.

Collaborative attitude and inter-personal skills. Open to sharing information and resources with peers.


5+ years relevant experience

Experience in activated carbon process and/or applications

Experience in LabView, PLC programming or other process automation

Proficiency in statistics as used in data generation and analysis. General knowledge of design of experiments.

Broad knowledge of laboratory & pilot plant technology, equipment, procedures, and safety practices.
