Location - Cleveland Ohio


Working under general supervision, the Research Assistant will perform and assist advanced research at the intersection of cancer biology, intracellular signal transduction, and membrane trafficking. The research assistant will join efforts to pursue cutting-edge biomedical research to understand the mechanism of Golgi trafficking, its regulation, and contribution to human disease, especially cancer. The lab is using our discoveries to develop new approaches to cancer treatment.


The position will include work with mice.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


1. Conduct experiments to supply scientific information as part of a larger project. Perform experiments including PCR, gel electrophoresis, cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, Western blotting, and basic molecular biology and protein biochemistry. (10%)

2. Plan and carry out project in accordance with general plans. Projects involve assessment of vesicle trafficking using fluorescence microscopy and biochemical techniques (Western blotting, immunoprecipitation), measurements of cell growth and cell transformation, and quantification of organelle morphology. (12%)

3. Assist in developing improved techniques, methods, or procedures for Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and protein biochemistry. (8%)

4. Collect and analyze data using microscopy, chemiluminescence, and related methods. Analyze data using spreadsheet software, image analysis software, and similar computational methods. Prepare graphs, charts, and slides to report experimental data. (8%)

5. Organize and maintain mouse colony, keep clear records of mouse lines, genotype and wean pups. (15%)

6. Perform laboratory maintenance and organization under general guidance. Responsible for tracking and maintaining supply inventory, work with fund manager, laboratory personnel, and supply company representatives to ensure supplies are ordered cost effectively and in a timely manner and on correct funding source, responsible for maintenance of laboratory equipment in good working order, appropriately calibrated and maintained, ensure a clean, orderly, safe working environment. (15%)

7. Maintain laboratory stocks and reagents, records of equipment manuals and procedures, maintain records of purchases, purchases received and outstanding, packing slips, and storage destination, and maintain records of laboratory experimental procedures and data. (15%)
