**Research Associate II**


Kelly Scientific is searching for a research associate to join an innovative biotech company developing and producing food that minimizes the impact of agriculture on the environment. This Research Associate II will be responsible for conducting molecular biology experiments, including quickly and efficiently generating vectors for plant transformation using a variety of cloning techniques. The ideal candidate will have training in plant molecular biology, biotechnology, and genetics.



**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**




+ Conduct research and development in collaboration with others.

+ Proficient in a variety of molecular cloning techniques including Golden Gate Assembly and Gibson Assembly.

+ Experienced in bacterial transformation and plasmid extraction.

+ Design guideRNAs using web-based programs.

+ Perform agarose gel electrophoresis.

+ Perform PCR based methods for genotyping.

+ Analyze Sanger sequence chromatograms using appropriate software.

+ Research and present new technologies, equipment, and software to streamline lab work.

+ Coordinate with transformation and growth operations staff on resource utilization and scheduling.

+ Coordinate tissue sample collection from cell culture, growth chamber, or greenhouse.

+ Participate in scientific conferences and contribute to scientific journals

+ Write and present periodic reports to company colleagues.

+ Use professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve problems of defined scope in a creative and effective way.



**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITITIES**




+ Understanding and familiarity of basic molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, restriction digests, cloning, and PCR based genotyping methods.

+ Understanding and familiarity of genome editing technologies such as CRISPR.

+ Research experience with agricultural crops and plant molecular biology including PCR based molecular marker systems is desired.

+ Basic understanding of plant genetics and plant breeding techniques is highly desirable.

+ Must be able to tolerate different working conditions since environments will vary; greenhouse, growth chamber, lab and field.

+ Flexibility to work longer hours (including weekends) to meet seasonal deadlines.

+ Ability to lift 30 lbs.

+ Ability to perform tasks that require fine motor skills.



**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**




+ Bachelors degree in scientific discipline such as Genetics and Genomics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or related field with 2-5 years direct work experience.
