Research Associate III - Immunohistochemistry

Kelly Scientific Resources is hiring a Research Associate III to work with in an academic research lab environment.



Working under limited supervision, the Research Assistant 3 will coordinate research work in the immunohistochemical lab, working closely with the principal investigator and National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center faculty and staff. The research assistant will also develop research techniques and protocols, maintain equipment and facilities, handle bio-hazardous waste, train users of the facilities, and enforce safety rules.



Work Hours- 9:00- 5:30 (Monday Friday )



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS




1. Develop improved research techniques, protocols and procedures for research projects involving a high degree of skill and training. Evaluate adequacy of techniques; coordinate and carry out more complex research relating to prion disease, and utilizing new and innovative techniques for research. Study and test new procedures and analyze data for research. (30%)

2. Coordinate and implement complex research in an immunohistochemical lab. (20%)

3. Perform accurate, high quality bench work including, processing, embedding, sectioning and immunohistochemical staining on pathology of the brain. (20%)

4. Perform data analysis of experiment results and produce test reports accurately and in a timely manner. (20%)

5. Train and assist new laboratory technicians and student employees. Track orders and inventory, maintain stock and solutions. Provide general upkeep of the lab such as hazardous waste disposal, contractor maintenance coordination, equipment maintenance, etc. (5%)

6. May co-author research projects. May monitor the laboratory budget. (5%)



QUALIFICATIONS



Experience: 3 to 5 years of related experience required.



Education/Licensing: Bachelors degree in science required. Valid ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certificate or eligible in Histology (HT) preferred.

1. Knowledge and understanding of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of immunohistochemistry.

2. Demonstrated knowledge of the Immunohistochemical methodology.

3. Ability to operate all lab equipment needed to perform immunochemical lab work.

4. Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills.

5. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work and communicate with various individuals from a broad spectrum of disciplines, technical and educational backgrounds within the department, school and university and with individuals outside the university.

6. Strong organization skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines. Must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills and follow-through.

7. Ability to lead, train, work with, and elicit cooperation from team members and staff.

8. Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively within a team. Must be highly motivated, responsible, dependable, proactive and a self-starter.

9. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

10. Effective problem-solving skills; must demonstrate excellent analytical skills, sound judgment and good decision-making.

11. Must demonstrate flexibility and ability to work under pressure; must be able and willing to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.

12. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database applications, and with internet navigation.

13. Must demonstrate willingness to learn new techniques, procedures, processes, and computer programs as needed.

14. Ability to meet consistent attendance.

15. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face-to-face.
