Perform tasks related to the in-life portion of research projects. Responsible for oversight and/or performing duties according to study protocol, GLPs and SOPs. Sufficiently knowledgeable and self-reliant to perform several research activities without supervision. Has advanced technical skills and can develop novel procedures, SOPs, and methods for specialized techniques.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**


+ Lead technician on routine and non-routine study types as well as complex GLP studies. Takes the lead in the review of complex GLP protocols and assists Supervisor in the planning and execution of associated procedures including preparation of necessary equipment, materials, and data files. Assists with daily technician schedule and adjusts when necessary.

+ Designee if Supervisor is absent.

+ Communicates effectively and professionally with outside departments, clients, management, and other employees. Presents new ideas clearly and effectively with solutions and justifications.

+ Perform advanced/specialized procedures and complex techniques. Develops novel techniques for study purposes and creates related training material.

+ Train staff as a Certified Trainer for multiple skills and assist in the creation of training material.

+ Assist Animal Technicians, Veterinary Technicians Post-Life, and/or Labs and participate in a weekend and evening rotations, as needed.

+ Refine and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Is compliant with GLP, ALCOA+, USDA, and AAALAC and routinely resolves issues and inconsistencies.

+ Actively promotes and contributes to the 3Rs of research. Recognizes possible treatment related effects and humane endpoints and can resolve or prevent them. Develop, produce, or refine SOPs related to animal handling, restraint, and overall animal care.

+ Develops novel procedures, produces, or refines SOPs and initiates theoretical and practical training in these new techniques. Undertakes a range of complex or specialized techniques. Has gained competencies in specialized skills. Ability to work with all species on site.

+ Meets excellent data standards according to the data quality performance standards. With regards to data quality, sets performance standards and manages KPIs and provides updates and proposals to Supervisor. Critically evaluates finalized study schedules compared to IACUC and study protocols, can identify discrepancies, and communicate them in a timely and effective manner. Create forms packages and other related material that capture all necessary data with quality in mind. Exceptional and consistent data collection and data review capabilities.

+ Other duties may be assigned.


**REQUIREMENTS:**


+ Bachelors degree with three years of relevant experience; high school diploma or GED with five years experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ It is desirable to be working toward or have achieved the AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATg) certification level or equivalent.
