Kelly Services is currently seeking a DIRECT HIRE **Research Scientist - Inhalants** for an esteemed client located in **Research Triangle Park, NC** . This Scientist will have experience in product development for dosage forms, with specific expertise in pressurized metered dose inhalers (pMDI) and work within the Formulation Department involved in the development of inhaled, topical, injectable, and nasal dosage forms.

**This is a dual bench/research role.**

**The ideal candidate will have:**


+ Subject Matter Level Expertise in pMDI's with specific expertise in the inhaled dosage forms, _i.e._ MDI, DPI, and nebulizers
+ Skills in statistical design of experiments (DoE).
+ Experience documenting and interpreting inhalation testing data
+ Excellent communication skills and client facing abilities
**Preferred Qualifications**


+ Hands-on experience in MDI process development, including use of Pamasol crimping and filling equipment.
+ Expertise in fine particle generation (e.g. jet milling) and powder characterization (e.g. TGA, DSC, DVS, SEM, particle size by laser diffraction, etc).
+ Expertise in techniques to prepare other dosage forms (parenteral, nasal and topical) including simple solutions, emulsions, cosolvent systems, micellar dispersions, liposomal dispersions, cyclodextrin-based solutions, and lyophilized products.

+ Skilled in statistical design of experiments (DoE). Experience with JMP is a plus.
**Responsibilities:**


+ Represent the department as a subject matter expert in MDI product development, including reverse engineering, pre-formulation studies, formulation development, and product characterization.
+ Evaluate and select excipients and packaging components such as cans, valves, actuators, dose counters, and overwraps.
+ Work with the Manufacturing Department to develop and scale up MDI manufacturing processes.
+ Design and conduct experiments to support the development of other dosage forms, i.e. injectable, topical, and nasal.
+ Independently develop test methods, study protocols, and experimental designs.
+ Perform aerosol testing or product characterization in a supporting role.
+ Review laboratory notebooks and summarize results and trends in technical reports and presentations.
+ Assist Business Development through preparation of proposals and work orders for customers.
**Qualifications:**


+ Ph.D. with 2+ years of relevant industry experience or MS degree with 7+ years of relevant industry experience, with specialization in chemistry or the pharmaceutical sciences.
+ Expertise in preformulation characterization with a thorough understanding of the impact of drug physicochemical properties on formulation performance.
+ Proficient in aerosol characterization techniques, including cascade impaction (e.g. NGI), delivered dose uniformity, total can assay, foreign particulate matter, spray pattern, plume geometry, and Karl Fischer moisture analysis.
+ Strong written and oral communication skills. Prepares protocols, reports, and presentations.
+ Experience in working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
+ Experience with working in a cGMP environment.
+ Experience with JMP is a plus but not required
