**Title:** Research Specialist - Tech Development (Full Time)

**Location:** San Diego, California

**Required Education:** M.S. or B.S with equivalent experience

**Areas of expertise desired:** Recombinant Protein Expression and Characterization, Genome Editing, Plant Biology, Molecular Biology

**Major Responsibilities:**

+ Assist/lead research projects involving custom recombinant protein expression, purification, and analytical characterization.

+ Assist in the development, refinement, and optimization of gene editing reagents to advance core technologies.

+ Execute research plans and experiments on a daily basis.

+ Manage resource and supervise personnel as needed for projects and experiments.

+ Recognize and identify IP values from research ideas and activities.

+ Follow standard operating procedures and troubleshooting related procedures.

+ Communicate research findings through written reports and oral presentations.

**Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:** The ideal candidate will have a M.S. degree in Biological Sciences or in a related discipline with a minimum of 3-4 years experience in a research and/or development environment and demonstrated working knowledge of recombinant protein production/QC/analysis, molecular biology techniques; or its equivalent.

+ Direct hands-on experience in recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization, using microbial, insect and/or plant systems is required.

+ Familiarity with AKTA or equivalent systems is preferred.

+ Prior industry experience in agriculture or plant biology, or willingness to quickly transition into an industrial setting of scientific research is preferred.

+ Prior experience and/or knowledge of genome editing, preferably in plant systems

+ Experience in bioinformatics including sequence analysis, structure-function analysis, protein modeling and protein engineering is a plus.

+ Broad scientific capabilities within plant molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology.

+ Ability to design and execute research projects independently and collaboratively.

+ The candidate is expected to work independently with minimal supervision.
