The Risk Management Coordinator will review and recommend overall risk management strategies to minimize risk and cost to the College, as well as managing the College related liability insurance coverages with appropriate providers. This responsibility includes all coordination activities involved in Risk Management and Health and Safety. The coordination will involve the monitoring and recommendations of safety measures for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This execution will require the successful fostering of strong relationships with Public Safety and other stakeholders, including consultants, vendors and governmental agencies, to support the College Risk Manager to establish a complete and responsive College-wide enterprise risk management program.

**What a typical day as a Risk Management Coordinator might look like:**


**A. Risk Management, Health and Safety**


1. Develop and implement the College's enterprise risk management plan in order to comply with applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing the environment, occupational health and safety, and loss prevention and control. This work includes the coordination and maintenance of policies, procedures and programs.

2. Conduct risk management assessments, audits and investigations, and make suitable recommendations.

3. Identify insurance products and prepare analyses of risk coverage and insurance strategies

4. Coordinate with Purchasing, the process of requesting bids for insurance at the best price and quality package available to the College.

5. Coordinate the administration of insurance claims to reduce the extent of risk exposure and cost for the College. Act as a claims representative and central point of contact for all general liability insurance claims.

6. Make strategic recommendations in the administration of case management, negotiation for the settlement and resolution of claims.

7. Act as a liaison with government agencies concerning all environmental, occupational health and safety and fire loss prevention and control matters. Participate in all inspections, tours or walk-throughs regarding such matters. Serve as 'first responder' with regard to procedural compliance for any risk generating event.

8. Conduct, and involve Public Safety for, health, safety, fire and accident investigations and follow up with appropriate recommendations to management to reduce future risk of occurrence.

9. Communicate with College staff and faculty on the importance of safe worker conduct and regulatory compliance in order to promote the College's safety programs. Work with Public Safety to monitor ongoing readiness of required resources and training level of response teams.

10. Review and/or investigate all ergonomic requests or complaints. Recommend preventative measures and workstation solutions to eliminate ergonomically inadequate or hazardous work situations.

11. Coordinate the development of a safety committee or workgroup whose focus is the continuous improvement of health and safety conditions of the College.


**B. Compliance, Records and Reporting**


1. Develop and maintain relationships with outside contractors and consultants to ensure College compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws and college policies and procedures.

2. Create and maintain appropriate databases of information to prepare various periodic and ad-hoc reports for management decision making. Examples include insurance product records, claims and cost tracking, areas of concern and areas not in compliance with college safety procedures.

3. Maintain proper records and documentation in compliance with applicable laws and regulations (i.e., MIOSHA logs). Oversee or monitor compliance submittals to appropriate authorities by all sources. Review plans, evaluate compliance, and develop scorecards and metrics.

4. Conduct periodic audits and investigations to evaluate the College's continuing compliance with applicable federal, state and local environmental, occupational health and safety, and fire protection laws, rules and regulations and college policies and guidelines in all respects, including safety training and safety data sheets (SDS).

5. Remain current with issues pertinent to compliance with Federal, State and Local health, safety and environmental requirements. Report and make recommendations on potential legal issues.

6. Assist in the development of a budget. Monitor and be responsible for expenditures of budget line items.

7. Serve as the College's designated Hazardous Material Emergency Response Coordinator to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Arrange for proper storage and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. Identify all biohazard and reportable conditions and comply with all HAZCOM regulations.

8. Monitor chemical inventories in conjunction with the College's inventory system.

9. Maintain a record of each claim and incident report including all supporting documents. Prepare and utilize a database to provide statistical analysis and identify loss trends.

10. Create, maintain and oversee a library of safety policies, procedures and manuals. This "Safety Library" incorporates both materials created by this position and by other departments, for example, the Public Safety Department emergency action plans. Review all items included in the Safety Library to ensure they are current, coordinated and without redundancies, and compliant with applicable laws and College policy. 1 1) Assist with the development of an annual institutional Enterprise Risk Assessment Report.


1. Review audits of consumables, chemicals, tools and equipment (CCTE) for health, safety and risk management compliance.

2. Responsible for the College's Worker's Compensation program, which includes processing and investigating claims, working with the insurance carrier, providing training as appropriate, and processing invoices.


**C. Training**


1. Develop and maintain internal and external training resources for risk management and environmental health and safety.

2. Assist in the development of materials and conduct training for college faculty and staff to comply with applicable laws and regulations.

3. Maintain risk management, health and safety related training records and database.


+ **This job might be an outstanding fit if you:**

+ Bachelor's degree

+ More than three years of directly related Health and Safety work experience for an organization of similar size and complexity to the College. Experience must include compliance with relevant federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing the environment, occupational health and safety (OSHA / MI-OSHA), and loss prevention and control.

+ Ability to appropriately use and proficiency with MS Office software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience and the ability to use productivity tools such as Gmail, Google Calendar and database usage (to include the collection, control, and reporting of information related to Health and Safety programs).
