**Safety Technician **

Safety Observation Tech Responsible for: Chlor Alkali Products and Vinyls, is seeking a Safety Observer. This position will be located at the Freeport, TX manufacturing site. In this role, you will be responsible for safe field implementation of various projects including tasks such as observing and overseeing actions and activities of various subcontractors, and specifically performing field safety oversight. You will also be responsible supporting effort to ensure field projects are executed in full compliance with safety requirements and standards. You will work closely with the onsite safety and project managers during execution. Essential Functions: Serve as Field Safety Observer on the assigned project to ensure compliance with developed and implement site-specific Health Safety Plans. Specifically: Responsible for building relationships in the field by conducting observations and interventions 75-90 of the time in the field. The expected number of observations from observers will vary based on hours worked and project load, but a minimum average of 150 observation entries per month should be conducted by observers. Responsible for intervening and correcting unsafe behaviors/conditions. Will record all field observations and turn them into their assigned Project Tech if not issued a workstation. Will remain professional at all times when dealing with a safety issue. Will escalate any safety issues which arises that he/she themselves cannot resolve. Examples may include Life Critical Standard Violations, conflict resolutions while intervening, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of Site Safety Rules and Requirements as well as with PPE requirements, chemical hazards, and block/unit personnel for the block they are assigned to. Attend meeting requests as needed and approved by Lead Project Tech. Maintain communication with Project Tech regarding work location, changes in work schedule, coverage requests and any other deviations from assigned duties. Will be involved in speaking at tailgate meetings and stand downs. Will assist contractors or block, as needed or requested, in collecting documentation i.e. permits, JSA s, etc. after an incident has occurred

**Position Requirements:** High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate s or Bachelor s degree in Environmental Science, Production Operations, or Construction Management preferred.

2 to 5 years of experience working in EH S or ORC as a Safety Observer required.

Experience must be in Construction, Chemical and/or Petroleum operating facilities. Strong commitment to safety, including implementing strict Health and Safety protocols.

Ability to provide excellent written and verbal communication Ability to organize and coordinate field personnel, subcontractors and vendors.

Completed training and certifications for HAZWOPER, DOT basic Hazmat awareness, OSHA 30-hour construction, and fall protection/prevention training preferred. Strong initiative self-starter, problem-solving and communication skills, and attention to detail.

Prior experience in a relevant position strongly preferred

Valid driver s license and a good driving record.

**Physical Requirements :** The below physical demands and work environment are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: Physical ability and mobility to work in an outdoor field environment in remote locations; Walking, standing and/or operating a motor vehicle for prolonged periods of time; Travel from site to site, including: walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills and slopes; Exposure to noise, dust, smoke and all types of weather and temperature
