We are seeking an experienced individual to work as a Scientific Technical Writer at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.


This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:


**Prepares scientific and technical materials for publication.**


+ Research, write and edit scientific and technical information in a variety of formats, including articles, blog posts, factsheets, one-pagers, brochures, presentations and speeches, workshop summaries, reports, briefing materials, press releases, content for digital media in online and print format


**Conducts advanced literature reviews and prepares reports, summaries and presentations on findings.**


+ Searchers and reviews published papers for scientific advances supported by NIBIB, prepares summary, and makes recommendations for use in education and outreach efforts


**Creates and maintains databases of all research materials, literature reviews, and publications.**


+ Utilizes existing databases for tracking supporting research and publications, provides recommendations for improving publication tracking and triage activities


**Develops and edits official program management reports, official correspondence and audit reports.**


+ Review and provide comment on the scientific and technical accuracy of a variety of reports, presentations and correspondence

+ Review and provide edits to a variety of external communication and informational materials to ensure scientific and technical accuracy and completeness


**Provide scientific and technical writing expertise to assist researchers and staff prepare documentation.**


+ Research publications, draft and edit science articles and other materials, coordinate and review content development with researchers


**Finalizes documents and prepares materials for publication.**


+ Proofread all documents drafts and final forms for scientific and technical accuracy and completeness prior to submitting them for review and approval or acceptance


**Provides expert guidance, direction and support to executives in the development and distribution of scientific and technical written materials.**


+ Provide expert advise for general health and science communications activities that involve content creation for health communication and outreach projects, scientific and technical publication, promotional materials and online events

+ Design and implement a publications program that enhances development and dissemination of information about the Institutes research programs, activities and outcomes

+ Advise executives and program managers on written materials to be developed and present strategies for maximizing impact and performance toward organizational and programmatic goas and objectives


**Mentors, coaches and trains writers, editors and staff on scientific and technical writing and editing practices and procedures.**


+ Assists in planning and participating in training for researchers and staff on presentation skills, media interviews, and preparing materials for a variety of audiences


REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:


+ Masters degree in a related field.

+ Skills (Ranked By Priority)


1. Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.

2. Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

3. Excellent interpersonal communications skills

4. Demonstrated ability to copyedit for scientific accuracy, Associated Press style, plain language and adherence to brand standards

5. Experience writing for different audiences, including scientists, health professionals, various educational levels, agency leadership, and the public, and ability to adapt your writing style and voice to different requirements

6. In-depth knowledge and experience writing about biomedical research and public health topics

+ Expertise in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite

+ Field of Study: Communications, Advertising and Public Relations, Miscellaneous Health Medical Professions
