We are seeking an enthusiastic scientist to join our R&D team working to expand the application space of our digital PCR system. The focus of this role will be to identify, develop, and translate molecular-based assays from concept to product. This position requires strong communication between customer development, R&D, and engineering teams to facilitate the transfer of user needs into research and development projects. The work will be part of an iterative R&D process involving background research, design, testing, and data interpretation. Experimentation will proceed using standard bench assays as well as using our digital PCR platform and may require iteration between the two for project completion. The projects may require the identification, evaluation and/or development of new oils, surfactants, and assay reagents crucial for the performance of the digital PCR system. The candidate must be comfortable working independently and as part of multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of initiative and be able to switch between detail-oriented testing and large-scale planning.



**Job Duties**




+ Help identify and develop new applications using our digital PCR system.

+ Execute on multiple research development projects simultaneously.

+ Assist with organizing and running of PCR assays

+ Present clear and concise written and oral communications to colleagues and provide recommendations based on technical results

+ Maintain the laboratory to ensure efficiency and compliance with company policies and operational guidelines

+ Record keeping of bio-samples and chemical stores, capital equipment, maintenance records, etc.

+ Identify areas of opportunity and create action plans for improvement



**Must have knowledge, skills, and abilities:**



+ M.S. or PhD in biological engineering, biochemistry, molecular biology, analytical chemistry or a related discipline.

+ Strong organization, oral and written communication skills

+ Ability to find and interpret scientific literature

+ Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines

+ Demonstrate competency and drive to work collaboratively with peers, including individuals across functional areas, to positively impact the working environment and business performance

+ Experience with standard molecular biology experiments, specifically PCR assays

+ Experience with good lab practices specifically with regards to the handling of DNA, RNA, and protein samples

+ Experience in life sciences industry, specifically experience developing research or diagnostic life science tools

+ Collaborative, collegial, self-starting team player willing to stretch to fill needs within the company

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capability to listen well and ask insightful and critical questions
