**Overview**


We are seeking a Negative Certifying Scientist for one of our clients, a leading forensic toxicology lab at their Lenexa, KS location. The incumbent will use their on-the-job training to review and release negative drug testing results. Required to work independent of immediate supervision and assume the initiative for prompt and accurate certification with appropriate documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness and forensic and scientific defensibility of drug testing results.


**Responsibilities**


+ Certifying negative and rejected drug testing results according to the Laboratorys Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual.

+ Ensure that all test results reported by the laboratory are accurate and legally defensible.

+ Describe the standard drug testing procedures from point of collection to negative certification in a court of law.

+ Interact on a limited basis with clients, medical review officers, call center representatives and sales staff in a professional manner to address questions pertaining to the drug testing process.

+ Interact with laboratory inspectors to demonstrate a detailed working knowledge of the lab SOPS, QC practices, analytical procedures, test theory, reporting procedures, corrective actions and applicable regulations pertaining to drug screening.

+ Maintain a working knowledge of the accessioning procedures and protocols to ensure proper specimen and chain of custody handling.

+ Maintain a working knowledge of the theory and practice of initial test methods used in the laboratory.

+ Have a thorough understanding of all laboratories:

+ quality control practices and procedures

+ data review processes

+ procedures for interpretation of test results

+ protocols for reporting results.


+ Provide appropriate feedback to the Supervisor and Responsible Person to assist in maintaining an accurate SOP.

+ Maintain a thorough understanding of all federal, state, and other regulatory requirements as they pertain to applicable aspects of forensic drug testing.

+ Take proper remedial action in response to test systems being out of control limits or detecting aberrant test or quality control results.

+ Function as a technical resource for department personnel in accessioning and screening areas.

+ Comply with all safety and regulatory requirements as defined and applicable.

+ Other duties as assigned by the Certifying Scientist Supervisor and Responsible Person


**Qualifications**


+ Bachelors degree with a major in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, or Medical Technology. Alternative major bachelors degree in other major with a minimum of sixteen (16) semester hours in Chemistry, which include at least six semester hours in inorganic chemistry and are acceptable towards a major in chemistry, sixteen (16) semester hours in Biology which are pertinent to the medical sciences and three (3) semester hours of Mathematics to meet New York State (NYS) requirements. Note, any alternative major must have college transcripts reviewed and approved prior to employment offer by QA department to ensure science education meets regulatory requirements

+ One (1) year laboratory experience required. Two years preferred.

+ Forensic toxicology laboratory experience preferred.

+ Training and experience in reviewing and reporting test results, maintenance of chain of custody, and understanding proper remedial action in response to problems that may arise is preferred.

+ General systems knowledge and data analysis

+ Ability to perform repetitive motions.

+ Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time
