We are seeking an experienced individual to work as a Scientist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.





This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:




+ Perform semi-independent research using cellular biology and correlative light and electron microscopy methods to study the structure and molecular make up of specialized sensory hair cell structures essential for hearing.

+ Perform microdissection of inner ear tissues from mice.

+ Manage transgenic mouse lines.

+ Perform sample preparation using fast- freezing and freeze substitution.

+ Perform immunofluorescence and immunogold labeling.

+ Perform correlative light and electron microscopy.

+ Image samples using confocal microscope, TEM and SEM.

+ Perform advanced quantitative image analysis.

+ Identify and review literature pertinent to projects.

+ Design and carry out experiments.

+ Collect, analyze and interpret data; update and maintain laboratory notebooks and databases.

+ Maintain detailed, orderly records of experiments.

+ Prepare reports and Lead, write up and publish on specific projects

+ Attend laboratory meetings; present results and findings to staff for discussion.

+ Participate in the training of less experienced lab members





REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:




+ Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology or a related discipline.

+ Minimum of 7 years of postdoctoral experience in advanced light and/or electron microscopy.

+ Expertise in cutting-edge molecular and cellular biology is desirable.

+ Experience with cryo-EM or cryo-electron tomography is valued.

+ A solid publication record, commensurate with the number of postdoctoral years. Emphasis will be given to work and publications from the last 5 years.

+ Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written are critical.

+ Excellent analytical and computational skills.

+ Passionate about science, self-motivated, proactive, and able to work in a team.

+ Work and communicate well in a team-oriented environment to carry out technological development and collaborative efforts

+ Excellent organizational and time management skills.
