We are currently seeking a Scientist with expertise in Rodent Behavior with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

**TASKS.** The contractor shall:




+ Work with staff to innovate, design, refine or test new experimental approaches to facilitate experimental brain studies.

+ Develop and implement courses for users of the Rodent Behavioral Core (RBC).

+ Ensure equipment works in a dynamic high-traffic research environment.

+ Prepare code and custom script for video-tracking, data analysis and experimental protocols using programming languages including R, Python and Matlab.

+ Test, update and troubleshoot video-tracking software and other software used in the RBC.

+ Work with Core, Scientific Directors Office and software developers to facilitate changes to Scientific Core Tracking System; attend regular meetings, test software, comunicate with users, and relay appropriate and constructive feedback for software updates.

+ Work with NIH and NIMH Information Technology services and other related computer and server support services to ensure data management infrastructure for the RBC.

+ Prepare documents, Core status reports and graphical data for annual and committee reports.

+ Attend courses and technical workshops to update knowledge and apply new knowledge to existing equipment infrastructure.

+ Work with staff to coordinate and conduct behavioral training and testing of rodents for users of the Section.

+ Provide technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques.

+ Perform experimental procedures to support users of the Section.

+ Work with staff on experimental data collected in the Section and Core, including data files, computer programs, source codes and any written document.

+ Develop and maintain training resources including training materials used.

+ Prepare technical progress reports including summaries of technical information.

+ Prepare status reports, including specific work performed and progress.

+ Prepare, operate and maintain experimental laboratory equipment in the Section and Core; perform minor repairs.

+ Ensure compliance with safety regulations in the use of equipment.

+ Ensure proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

+ Prepare laboratory reagents and restock general laboratory supplies.

+ Ensure general housekeeping and cleanliness of rooms.





**REQUIREMENTS.** The contractor must have:




+ Ph.D. degree in a scientific field. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Masters degree is equivalent to a Ph.D. Five (5) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.

+ Four (4) years of experience in a science related field. Demonstrates expert knowledge working in the research laboratory environment.

+ Experience working with animals in a research setting, with experience in animal behavior, stereotaxic surgery and optogenetics.

+ Experience working with students, trainees and research fellows.

+ Proficiency in data analysis skills and programming including languages like R, Matlab or Python, as well as machine learning.

+ Experience with integrating optical and neurophysiological methods with operant behavioral control systems.

+ Interest in working with cutting-edge experimental approaches.

+ Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

+ Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

+ Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
