Kelly is hiring a Scientist. This Direct hire opportunity is located in Seattle, WA. This position organizes and conducts tests, data analysis, equipment validation, equipment automation, and other research steps following predetermined or standardized testing/research protocols. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and modifies tests of research and laboratory work and data provided by others, verifies significance and quality of data using inferential statistics, and prepares complete validation reports. The Scientist is part of a multi-level career path for clinical research and test validation. The Scientist will learn test procedures and conduct bench work associated with assigned tests. Advancement to Senior Scientist requires two years of experience at the equivalent to a Scientist, expanded knowledge of company workflow and platforms and includes understanding of assay validation procedures, the ability to modify testing kits that meet testing standards, ability to analyze data using statistical inferences and research literature prepared by others, and assist in producing validation and qualification reports. The Scientist requires two years of experience at the equivalent to an Associate Scientist II and expanded ability to perform and/or develop testing kits and design research methods and testing procedures on a variety of different platforms, troubleshoot assay performance problems, and can draft validation reports with minimal supervision and guidance.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**


+ Performs complex research and testing protocols, making modifications of testing kits as needed to accommodate assay test procedures. Sets up tests of predetermined-to-unique design to analyze research results and data performed and documented by others. Sequences the steps for setting up assigned tests, data analysis, and equipment validation.

+ Develops assays in a variety of areas of expertise, including but not limited to Ligand-binding, and cell-based assays.

+ Provides senior-level assistance to Senior Scientists in the development and documentation of new technologies and test methods. May coordinate with other internal and external laboratories to integrate services and data into new and ongoing tests.

+ Prepares data analysis, merging and transforming files and data, and identification of outliers for further study. Performs statistical tests as required for the assigned project, to study outliers, or to answer questions.

+ Preparation of presentations of scientific data for internal and external review.

+ Prepares qualification/validation plans and reports, assay checklists, and draft SOPs that meet standards of written scientific standards and comply with Company quality assurance and operations standards and the client-specific requirements. Documents testing and bench work steps.

+ Conducts literature searches of science/medical search engines and libraries to identify information relevant to the development and validation of new assays and technologies.

+ Research and develop formulation of novel reagents, validation samples, and quality control material.

+ Assists in managing critical reagent inventory and qualification to ensure timely transition of new reagents.

+ Participates in and serves as a resource for troubleshooting logistic and technical issues with new tests and equipment.

+ Provides leadership/mentoring/training over Research Associates and technical staff.

+ Coordinates with internal and external customers to integrate services and data into new and ongoing tests.

+ Serves as back-up to the laboratory in routine testing as designated.

+ Relays information in a timely manner to supervisory personnel regarding problems that may impact the laboratorys ability to meet expected timeline

+ Performs other duties related to laboratory performance and efficiency as assigned to support the overall objective of the position.

+ Works on assignments with minimal supervision that are complex in nature where judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations.

**Laboratory Services:**

+ Performs chemical testing and analysis requiring the ability to work with advanced systems or substances using a variety of special instruments and laboratory routines and producing outcomes requiring significant interpretation.

+ Prepares samples for automated and manual assays. Sets up basic programs to automate certain pipetting stations. Aliquots samples into source plates or other media for further use.

+ Prepares an array of chemical solutions for use in further testing, including but not limited to, buffers and reagents.

+ Assists in managing critical reagent/QC inventory and qualification to ensure timely transition of new reagents.

+ Validates, calculates, and tabulates the results of tests performed and posts findings to specialized data recording formats and quality control records. Evaluates, documents, and communicates abnormal results.

+ Assures that established process and quality control requirements are met to validate test results. Records data for continual quality assurance programs.

+ Participates in research and investigation of potential out-of-specification events, process issues, and improvements for the clinical laboratory setting.

+ Participates in training new employees. May monitor compliance with regards to proficiencies, quality steps, and established protocols and procedures.

+ Participates in revising stand operating procedures, proficiency systems, and quality assurance best practices.

+ Oversees a small team performing testing for specific clients or type of studies.

+ Works with technical staff to enhance workflow procedures and techniques, as well as knowledge of test principles.

+ Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.


+ Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Technology or a related field and 6 years of related experience in laboratory bench work or data analysis, with two years performing at the equivalent of an Associate Scientist II. A Masters degree within fields above and 2 years of related experience

+ Desired areas of experience: quantitative or immunogenicity ELISA or ECL 96-well microplate analysis

+ Cell culture experience is a plus but not required

+ Experience handling materials in a BSL-II

+ Specialized knowledge of theories and principles of biomechanical and protein chemistry techniques, such as but not limited to, immunoassays, chromatography, electrophoresis, and ultracentrifugation.

+ Working knowledge of database designs physical structures and relationships, data entry, retrieval, and conversion techniques

+ Special knowledge of and skill at programming automation of workstation equipment

+ Well-developed skills using office productivity applications such as spreadsheets, statistical applications, and presentation graphics

+ In-depth knowledge of the laboratory routines established by the Company, sufficient to train new Associates

+ Ability to analyze and interpret biomechanical and protein chemistry test data.
