**Senior Accountant needed in Chicago**

**Contract, potentially contract to hire**

**Pay rate:** $37-$40/hr.

+ Accounting Acumen Candidates must have strong a strong aptitude of working with numbers, combined with knowledge of GAAP accounting standards. Demonstrated understanding of the interrelationships between various account transaction types and can quickly understand, assess, and resolve a wide variety of General Ledger (GL) accounting problems. Expertly processes revenue, AP, AR, expenses, cash management, and reconciliations while ensuring financial controls are met. Understands how GL accounts flow into monthly financial statements and owns all month-end close deliverables for the company. Quickly able to assess and solve variances.

+ Sharp, strategic thinking & problem-Solving Candidates should describe themselves as sharp, hardworking, and capable of quickly picking up on issues, trends, or opportunities. In this position youre expected to know what you need to do, and who you need to be working with to action available information. This doesnt mean you wont get support, guidance, coaching, and mentoring from your executive leadership team, but does mean you need to have strong initiative, and apply conceptual judgement, and quantitative thinking to solve complex business problems without handholding. Able to work upwards (to executive team) and across the business (Enterprise Sales, Product, Marketing, Operations, etc.); can see around the corners to add value to the business and be a strong strategic thinker.

+ Interpersonal Communication Candidates who have demonstrated the ability to clearly and concisely communicate, both oral and written, at all levels within an organization. Candidates who listen first, then quickly assess and understand the specific communication needs of their audience, adjusting their communication style and approach to ensure understanding and comprehension. Must be socially aware of environment, audience, and other situational variables and adjust communication style and approach to meet the communication needs of that unique situation.

+ Strong Excel & Accounting System Data Skills Strong spreadsheet and data manipulation skills; efficiently navigates, cleanses, and extracts value from large datasets. High focus on data quality and accurately; validates data quality within accounting systems, generates reports, and manipulates data using basic features within Microsoft Excel. Candidates who know how to get to the data they need, whether that be working with and navigating internal accounting systems and tools or working with 3-party vendors.

+ Confidentiality Keeps sensitive client, company business, and personnel matters including, but not limited to, company performance, contract terms, competitive data, M&A, employee salary information, and any other confidential information private.

**What Youll Be Accountable For**

+ Accounting Department activities including but not limited to month end close, AP processes, corporate expenses, AR processes, financial statement preparation, G/L maintenance, and periodic projects (e.g., tax work papers).

+ Responsible for working with all departments (sales, marketing, operations) that have an impact on financial statements to understand key business initiatives and ensure that the financial implications of those initiatives are captured properly in the books and records.

+ Handles organizational accounting issues through resolution with a polished, consultative, and customer service-oriented approach.

+ Escalates issues as appropriate, and regularly communicates statues updates to business leaders as it relates to the resolution of their accounting related issues.

+ Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.

+ Designs and executes Accounting processes and workflows.

+ Provides department organizational leadership and support during compilations, audits, and tax season.

**General Accounting**

+ Assist with the preparation of journal entries and reconciliations.

+ Support the development of the financial control environment and accounting procedures to ensure continued compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.

+ Monitor the internal control environment ensuring proper adherence to financial and accounting policies

+ Prepare reports which summarize business activities to assist in performance review and strategic decision-making.

+ Act as primary liaison with third-party review agencies to support annual financial statement review.

**Month-end close**

+ Responsible for closing books in an accurate and timely manner

+ Prior to close, review activity to ensure anticipated activity has been booked and any unanticipated activity is identified and investigated

+ During close process, reviews actuals for consistency with forecast and understands main drivers for variances

+ Complete account reconciliations.

+ Prepare end-of-month journal entries.

+ Verify and validate financial data and create monthly income statements and balance sheets.

+ Prepare monthly budget to actual variance reports.

+ Prepare or create additional financial reports internally as required

**Accounts Payable & Corporate Expense Processing**

+ Process invoices and expense reports within the accounting system ensuring that all documents are posted accurately and timely, reflected in the general ledger correctly, and are compliant with applicable company policies

+ Ensure all disbursements are property authorized, invoices are paid timely and expenses are coded correctly and in compliance with established policies

+ Initiate vendor adds/changes while ensuring that documentation requirements are met

+ Reconciliation of key accounts related to the payables area, and the preparation of department reports all while ensuring accuracy as well as meeting the established deadlines

+ Resolve invoice discrepancies and correspond with vendors

+ Maintain vendor database, including validation and requisition of W-9s

+ Verify/reconcile expenses with corporate credit card charges or within the expense tracking software for Air, Hotel and Car Rental expenses, and ensure proper coding.

+ Monitor and ensure corporate expenses are in compliance with organizational policies and flag outliers.

**Financial Reporting**

+ Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.

+ Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.


+ Create saved searches and reports (including matrix reports, formula-driven fields, and logical criteria, using joinders)

+ Significant experience with Advanced Revenue Management and Project Modules, fulfillment, opportunities, sales orders, change orders, timesheets, and SuiteBilling

+ Experience with creating customized dashboards

+ Ability to create and publish KPIs

+ Ability to create workflows

+ Familiarity with importing a variety of records and transaction types

+ Form customization and template creation

+ Ability to self-service in SuiteAnswers

+ NetSuite escalations: case management

+ Help manage projects with 3rd-party provider

**What Qualifications You Need:**

+ Bachelors degree from a 4-year university in accounting

+ Preference will be given to candidates aspiring to be, or are, a CPA.

+ A minimum of 3 years of experience across core accounting activities including but not limited to general bookkeeping, AP, AR, moth end close, corporate travel & expense processing, financial reporting, and financial controls.

+ payments, managing supplier accounts, and supplier payment processing.

+ Bank and Cash Management experience including processing of payments using electronic banking, as well as electronic important and balancing of bank statements.

+ Experienced in Account Receivable disciplines such as Collections Management, Deductions Management (short pay, quality discount), and Cash Forecasting & Reporting

+ capable of handling organizational accounting issues through resolution with a polished, consultative, and customer service-oriented approach

+ Strong problem solver, ability to quickly identify, troubleshoot, and resolve payment issues.

+ Excellent Microsoft Excel skills required. Proficient building and working with complex spreadsheets. Working knowledge of Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Conditional Statements, IF, formula auditing, validation, and SUMIF functions.
