**Senior Associate, Upstream Process Development (PD), San Diego, CA**



**Job Duties and Responsibilities:**




+ Performs hands-on execution of all aspects of cell culture activities to develop scalable and robust processes on accelerated timelines

+ Provides training to new personnel in specific technical processes.

+ Maintain multiple seed trains in shake flasks.

+ Independently gathers experimental data to support the development of cell culture processes.

+ Communicates with scientific leads to follow the development of their program from start to finish.

+ Collaborates with Process Development and MSAT teams to support the technical transfer of PD upstream processes from clients and Cell Line Development and between Process Development and MSAT/MFG groups.

+ Initiates and provides guidance on activities on the process floor for protein production using various equipment and bioreactor systems

+ Ensures necessary supplies are available and stocked according to proper inventory management procedures.

+ Provides guidance to junior personnel and work inter-departmentally to ensure PD lab requirements are met.

+ Prepares components, media, buffers and other solutions, as needed.

+ Conducts activities in support of production schedules and objectives as directed by manager.

+ Maintains records to comply with regulatory requirements and lead activities.

+ Leads and/or supports protein production under cGMP standards for generation of clinical trial material.

+ Travels as needed between sites, and to attend professional conferences and train on new technologies.



**Job Requirements:**




+ Bachelor's degree (BS) in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology or related discipline.

+ 5+ years of experience in a Process Development environment with a

+ Knowledge of cell culture scale-up and engineering principles (e.g. growth kinetics, specific consumption/production rates, gas transfer, power calculations, shear stress and bioreactor aspect ratios).

+ Mammalian experience is desired.

+ Demonstrated experience with bioreactor control systems is preferred.

+ Apply out-of-the box thinking to creatively develop solutions to day-to-day experimental challenges.

+ Knowledge of cell culture process steps including cell banking, thaw and expansion, production (batch-fed and perfusion), and harvest.

+ Skilled in operating stir tank reactors. Direct experience with ambr250 or other Sartorius platform STRs (2 L, 50 L, and 200 L) is a plus.

+ Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative analytical methods and interpretation of analytical data.

+ Skill in data management.

+ Ability to organize workload, oversee workload of associates and lab technicians, and relevant resource requirements.

+ Skill in leadership duties, to include time management and planning.

+ Knowledge of inventory management.

+ Knowledge and skill in using equipment in relation to cell counts and cell metabolism.

+ Knowledge in single-use technologies.

+ Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision, and to maintain accurate records and notes to write detailed development reports.

+ Ability to write development reports.

+ Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks and changing priorities, when required.

+ Skills in problem-solving and troubleshooting.

+ Ability to safely operate production equipment in accordance with established practices.

+ Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications.
