**Senior Food Safety & QA Specialist**

**Swedesboro, NJ (onsite)**

**Direct hire opportunity**

**Hours: 8am-4:30pm possible 1 Sat a month**

**Summary** :

The job holder is responsible for managing all supplier and material activities, conducting supplier and distribution center verification activities, ensuring compliance with internal and external audits, and ensuring compliance with FDA regulations.


+ Act as a backup to QA Manager

+ Responsible for ensuring that the facilitys domestic and foreign suppliers are in compliance with the FDAs Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA); Manage all activities related to supplier food safety and quality assurance to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements including supplier evaluations, documentation reviews, and hazard analyses

+ Responsible for reviewing incoming material qualification to ensure it meets food safety and quality requirements and enter and maintain all information in appropriate systems, such as SharePoint and any other applications identified

+ Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and tracking all raw material and packaging material complaints related to food safety/quality and communicating them with purchasing and suppliers as well as following up on non-conformities to ensure proper root cause analysis and corrective actions are performed to prevent recurrence.

+ Responsible for reviewing new products, ingredients, and suppliers to verify compliance

+ Responsible for ensuring distribution centers are in compliance with FDAs Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)

+ Lead supplier and distribution center audits as needed

+ Perform mock recalls and traces and assist Crisis Management Team during product recall execution & response

+ Assist with documentation, preparation, and participation of internal and external regulatory and certification audits (e.g. SQF), including corrective actions that may follow

+ Assist with managing the facilitys food safety/HACCP plans, including conducting raw material and finished product hazard analyses and supplier risk assessments to ensure regulatory compliance

+ Create, edit, and update food safety & quality documentation with cross-functional teams as needed in a controlled documentation system following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and cGMP guidelines

+ Check documents spelling, punctuation, and grammar; check formatting for conformity to document management system requirements

+ Assist with developing employee food safety and quality training programs and conduct employee training in topics such as HACCP, Food Defense, Allergens, and GMPs

+ Provide coaching to production staff on food safety, quality systems, and day-to-day quality issues and collaborate with production, maintenance, and warehouse departments to verify that food safety and quality standards are maintained

+ Assist with overseeing the facilitys Corrective Action and Preventive Action (CAPA) program, assist with root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and verification activities. Responsible for trending and tracking CAPAs to identify overdue items, reoccurring deviations, and compliance

+ Assist with hold/release system for finished goods and raw materials; track and trend holds and other issues to identify reoccurring non-conformances or areas for improvement

+ Coordination with other departments and external parties (distributors, vendors, legal counsel, customers) to provide appropriate food safety & quality documentation and additional requests

+ Collaborate with and provide guidance for cross function teams, including Supply Chain, Marketing, Research & Development

+ Responsible for keeping up-to-date, understanding the regulatory environment, interpreting current and pending regulations, and communicating how our products and business are affected

+ Drive continuous improvement in facilitys food safety and quality programs and provide recommendations for food safety, quality, and sanitation processes and improvements

+ Carry out managing projects with minimum supervision and complete tasks in a proficient manner.

+ Comfortable working proactively and independently in a fast-paced environment

+ Follows all company safety rules in performing job duties.

+ The job holder might be assigned to other tasks and duties if necessary and needed

**Qualifications** :

+ B.S. in Food Science, Biological Sciences, or related field required

+ Minimum 5-8 years of food industry, food safety & QA experience

+ Strong knowledge of FDA regulations and application of food safety principles (ex: FSMA HACCP, GMPs, SQF, Allergens, Microbiology)

+ Previous experience in supplier quality assurance in food manufacturing and food supply chains

+ Experience reviewing and writing policies and procedures

+ HACCP and PCQI certification desired

+ Auditing experience desired

+ Experience with SQF or other GFSI schemes desired

+ Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

+ Detail oriented
