**Senior Research Associate**


A Senior Research Associate must have the most updated scientific knowledge about assigned project. R&D research projects is under the supervision of Principle Investigator (PI). Research projects include developing gene assay, protein biomarker assay, and other assays relevant to clinical diagnostic tests. Other tasks include organizing materials, prepare samples, and organizing/maintaining paperwork for research projects, and other tasks when applicable. Training and mentoring Research Assistant and Research Associate I and II.

Location: Vancouver, WA

Pay: $65k-$70k per year


+ Responsible for performing research and development experiments for projects and products in collaboration with others.

+ Must report to PI in an appropriate manner.

+ Uses professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.

+ Investigates, create and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement.

+ Regularly exercises technical discretion in design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project goals.

+ Contributes to project process within scientific discipline through innovative research.

+ Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses.

+ May participate in scientific conferences and make contributions to publications and patents.

+ Has full understanding of and ability to apply established principles, theories, and concepts in area of responsibility, together with a working knowledge of related disciplines.

+ Projects require familiarity with current scientific literature together with capability to select methods and techniques for obtaining solutions within broadly defined practices and procedures.

+ May be involved in teams, which include participation from other sections and/or divisions.

+ May provide guidance to Research Assistant, Research Associate I and II, or other lab personnel.

+ May assume leading role in providing solutions to difficult, though defined, problems associated with specific projects.

+ Interact with other sections/divisions and support on routine matters (Clinical sample testing).

+ Contribute to the team research environment in a manner conducive to the success of the research project as a whole.

+ Assist training new testing personnel.

+ Collects, prepares and evaluates patient specimens for analysis and perform technical procedures with accuracy and precision, meeting the standards of all accrediting/regulatory agencies in a timely manner

+ Operate laboratory instruments and equipment and perform equipment maintenance according to the laboratorys standard operating procedures

+ Recognizes unusual patient results and identifies problems in analytical procedures/systems; responds with appropriate investigation and/or corrective action

+ Troubleshoots assays and equipment which fail to perform adequately

+ Observes established safety guidelines and maintains cleanliness of the laboratory

+ Keep a meticulous and organized record of specimens, tests, instrument logs, and technical analyses

+ Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary for resolution

+ Participates in activities required to support all necessary licensure for the clinical laboratory, including quality management functions and on-site inspections of the laboratory.

+ Responsible for maintaining updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the laboratory and the use of the resulting information by physicians through continuing education activities.

+ Consult with management and personnel on better operational procedures to improve overall efficiency and product yields.

+ Accurately document and maintain all records for equipment and instruments

+ Support the administrative functions of the lab as required

+ All other reasonable duties, as assigned.


**Education/Experience Requirements**

+ Requires a BS in a scientific discipline and a minimum of 4+ years CAP/CLIA laboratory experience, or MS with 2-5 years' experience

+ Experience in pharmacy or pharmaceutical science is a plus.

Experience in a minimum of 6 areas listed below is required.

+ Immunoassay (ELISA/EIA)

+ Western blot



+ Solid phase extraction

+ DNA extraction and Sterile technique

+ RT-PCR and Proficient with pipetting low volumes (<3L)

+ Robotics/automated high throughput system for molecular assay and/or EIA assay

+ Data analysis

+ Must have at least 3 years of lab experience with BSL2 materials

+ Strong knowledge of general data analysis, statistics and statistical process control

+ Demonstrates exceptional understanding of the elements that support high quality work processes, training and quality assurance in laboratories

+ Research techniques in molecular, protein chemistry or LC-MS/MS

+ Must have knowledge of biological analysis, quantitative and qualitative analysis, tabulation of data, equipment calibration, and standard laboratory equipment

+ Strong computer literacy knowledge. Must be excellent user of MS Office

+ Must have knowledge of CLIA and CAP regulations

+ Knowledge of occupational safety and health rules and regulations.

+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both verbal and written communications and excellent customer service skills in a culturally diverse organization

+ Ability to work as part of a team within a highly collaborative environment

+ Ability to adapt in a constantly changing environment and the ability to work under tight deadlines

+ Ability to meet the timeline of a project

+ Able to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work

+ Able to self-manage the working hours

+ High level of accuracy is required with a special attention to detail

**Physical Requirements:**

+ Must be able to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per day.

+ Occasionally required to lift up to 20 lbs

+ Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about facilities.

+ Must see colors accurately (no color blinded vision)
