**Senior Scientist (Protein) - San Diego, CA**



Kelly Scientific has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Scientist to work with one of top clients in San Diego, CA focus on medical devices and pharmacologic therapies.



**Summary:**



The Senior Scientist Protein Production will produce recombinant proteins using a range of host cell systems and established technical procedures. This individual will provide expertise for internal and external protein engineering activities, including research and development collaborations. The Senior Scientist Protein Production will lead the development of standardized processes, documentation, and data capture to record, effectively share, and communicate with Company personnel. This individual will plan, execute, and analyze experiments of medium to high complexity with specified timelines, and exercise sound technical judgment to solve a wide range of complex scientific problems and interpret scientific findings.


**Duties and Responsibilities:**




+ Execute projects in an efficient manner, working within aggressive timelines

+ Manage teams effectively

+ Manufacture product(s) in a lab setting following standard operating procedures

+ Utilize laboratory techniques and equipment, calculations, materials measurement, and record keeping necessary to manufacture products

+ Perform protein purification and characterization

+ Suggest and implement corrective actions

+ Maintain equipment, product inventories, and related records as assigned

+ Note variances on manufacturing documents

+ Audit, evaluate, and revise process documents

+ Complete, distribute, and file records as required in accordance with QMS

+ Identify potential issues in the production process

+ Report findings to team management, and lead troubleshooting and resolution processes

+ Recognize deviations to the process and/or desired specifications and manage problem reports as necessary

+ Collaborate with other technical subject matter experts to determine root cause(s) of problems/non-compliance and recommend procedural changes to mitigate reoccurrence

+ Write technical documents, including standard operating procedures and manufacturing batch records

+ Lead process improvement projects to reduce waste and/or improve productivity

+ Prepare internal and external reports, including regulatory submissions

+ Participate and lead project-based and technical team meetings to identify and solve problems, guide progress toward project goals, communicate on-going work and progress, and plan forward thinking strategies

+ Collaborate effectively with support personnel to achieve company objectives



**Minimum Requirements:**




+ Doctoral Degree in Chemistry or Life Sciences

+ 10+ years Experience with a variety of protein expression systems

+ 10+ years experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry

+ 8+ years experience in Protein Engineering, Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular & Cell Biology, or similar field

+ 10+ years experience in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and/or Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)

+ Excellent communication skills

+ Excellent computer skills

+ Able to manage multiple overlapping projects and time-sensitive workflows in a fast-paced environment

+ Experience in a Life Sciences regulated environment

+ Highly organized with excellent analytical, documentation, and multi-tasking skills

+ Broad background and skills in chemistry, molecular biology, fermentation, protein chemistry, and assay development

+ Able to efficiently and proactively participate in a team-driven environment

+ Able to comply with Company Safety and Quality Management System policies

+ In depth knowledge of team building
