Kelly Engineering is seeking a Solidworks Drafter/Designer for a temporary project in Rochester, NY. This position will be a standard 40-hour work week with a project duration of 9-12 Months with possibility of extension. Ideal candidate will be local to the area, but open to remote possibilities.


The Drafter/Document Control Specialist is primarily responsible for drafting and blueprint creation, document control, CAD database management, specification document creation, and organization of documentation intersecting QA and Engineering.

Requirements: 3-5 years of experience with Drafting

Associate Degree or higher, in Math, Science or Computer Proficient in blueprint drawing using CAD software or equivalent

Experienced with blueprint reading, drawing, and tolerancing/GD&T

Experienced with 3D viewing, imaging, and drawing of complex components

Proficient with Excel, and Word in a Microsoft Office environment

Experience with PDM software such as Solidworks PDM

Strong communication and writing skills

Ability to work efficiently and effectively with other team members

Ability to work independently in a self-motivated fashion

Strong organizational skills with high functioning work prioritization and time management

Reliable and committed to meet goals set by management

Responsible and enthusiastic working attitude willing to go above and beyond

Ability to multitask and handle stressful work deadlines


Create, update, and detail engineering designs and drawing in conjunction with internal engineering staff of fixtures, electro-mechanical parts, and assemblies, of new and existing manufacturing and metrology equipment.

Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to specify the important aspects of a component/assembly for evaluation and inspection.

Review external (vendor) drawings for completeness and manufacturability

Redesign, modify, or otherwise edit existing drawings as directed to reflect as-built conditions

Interface directly with departmental engineering staff and support discussions with production staff, as well as component suppliers/vendors throughout the development/change processes.

Control all drawings within document control system and protocols

Creation and maintenance of BOMs

Creation of Specification Sheets

Champions documentation and process for the release of parts through Engineering Change Order system

Perform QA/QC review of all incoming and outgoing correspondence and associated deliverables to ensure documents are recorded and managed properly

Provide administrative, technical, and training support for users of document processing and management systems
