Kelly Services is seeking a highly driven and skilled Sr. Mechanical Engineer for a customer in Longmont, CO. If you are a candidate that likes to learn, invent and design systems with a collaborative engineering team, please apply.

Our customer is a leading developer and manufacturer of atmospheric research instrumentation. Members of their staff work on products that are used in diverse applications including; weather and climate research, weather modification, aircraft icing certification, air quality monitoring, detection of mold, pollen, and other bio aerosols. To support continued growth, they are seeking to fill the position of Senior Mechanical Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for the concept, design, test and development of mechanical systems that interface with optical systems, flow/temperature control and sensors for existing and new products.

Due to the nature and the variety of activities, we seek a diligent, dedicated and meticulous person. The successful individual must plan his/her own work schedule, keep multiple records, be self-motivated, coordinate work with others in a team environment, maintain a professional presence, work with multiple departments within the organization and have the desire to take ownership.

Responsibilities:


+ Lead the invention and design of mechanical systems for proof-of-concept experimentation through production systems of optomechanical instrumentation that solve unmet customer needs.
+ Translate customer requirements into system requirements, and system requirements into component requirements.
+ Independently determine and develop approaches to solutions to complex problems.
+ Independently drive projects/features to completion while remaining accountable to project budget and schedule/customer commitments.
+ Identify and implement enhancements to existing products and formulate ideas for new products that fulfill customer unmet needs.
Requirements:


+ A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field.
+ 5+ years of related professional work experience. Experience with imaging systems, image processing, or similar analytics/methods/analysis a plus.
+ Machining background. Basic operation of lathes, triax, hand tools and sheet metal forming equipment.
+ Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work on abstract problems with limited direction while developing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
+ Strong proficiency in 3D modeling, SolidWorks preferred. Demonstrated ability to do design as well as thermal and flow modeling.
+ Strong track record of interdisciplinary interaction with wide-ranging engineering and science fields with proven teamwork and leadership skills.
+ Experience in reliability, manufacturability and engineering best practices.
+ Hands-on experience constructing mechanical and optomechanical devices and prototypes.
+ Ability to lift 50 pounds.
+ US citizen or permanent resident.
