Description and Requirements

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Senior Programmer Clinical Data Scientist (CDS) is responsible for building programs to create SAS datasets from the clinical database, external data sources, and other sources while following the clinical study's protocol or statistical plans. This role will also serve as a mentor to the programming team.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors degree required; advanced degree preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years SAS and/or ETL programming experience in a business environment required
  • Minimum of 5 years of SAS Data Programming experience in Clinical trials strongly recommended.
  • Experience with electronic Clinical Database Systems is required and experience with electronic reporting applications preferred
  • Ability to quality check all data deliverable as well as create presentation and interpret the data to internal and external clients
  • Knowledge of GCP is essential
  • Detail oriented with a track record of problem solving and willingness to work in a dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel required
  • Knowledge of other software such as R or Power BI is a plus
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

  • Build, as well as providing guidance to other programmers to build, SAS datasets from clinical database.
  • Develop SAS macros, templates and utilities for data cleaning and reporting as well as provide guidance and training to team.
  • Utilize SDTM guidelines to build datasets.
  • Write SAS programs to generate tables, listings, and figures datasets, as well as provide recommendations on more effective methods or enhancements across the department.
  • Serve as the SAS SME for Clinical Data Sciences member on various clinical projects.
  • Participate in identifying and creating edit checks per the data transfer plan.
  • Create and provide study specific reports, using SAS.
  • Monitor data transfers for ongoing trials to identify study conduct and/or data quality issues.
  • Communicate with an internal team to create deliverables for clients.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The position will not require the individual to be responsible for the management, direction, coordination, performance, and evaluation of an assigned team and staff.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to travel domestic and internationally, approximately 10% of the time, including overnight stays as necessary, consistent with project needs and office location.
