Description Supplier Quality Improvement Engineer (contractor for Fastener Hardware)

Position Summary:

Selects, develops, manages, and ensures defect-free performance of the business' direct material supplier base with the objective of overall quality improvement. Leads processes to drive improvements. Resolves supplier quality issues. Reviews and Approves supplier AIAG based Production Part Approval Process / PPAP. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, and evaluate product integrity and standards. Typically has a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline. The technical skills include the ability to use and understand the various AIAG reference manuals and procedures for the PPAP and associated processes, as well as experience using computer applications related to those activities.

Major job duties and responsibilities for this position will include the following:

* Participates in supplier evaluation, selection, and strategic sourcing process development.
* Responsible for the supplier corrective action process including containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
* Ensures suppliers use quality tools effectively.
* Works with supplier to ensure all product requirements are met.
* Oversees the supplier quality resources for new product introduction and current products to reduce supplier related issues, improve process capabilities, and ensure timely project launches.
* Responsible for determining if all requirements are met by the supplier for new or changed products.
* Measures supplier quality performance according to established procedures; drives appropriate improvements to meet established targets.
* Facilitates continuous improvement activities to reduce defects.
* Works with suppliers of direct materials to achieve ISO9000 / IATF16949 and meet AIAG PPAP, APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, and related quality expectations to a tier 1 on and off highway supplier

Required Education, Experience & Skills:

* Bachelor degree in engineering required

* Minimum of 7 – 10 years’ of relevant work experience required. Specifically the manager shared that they are interested in candidates who have worked with direct material suppliers who supply products to a manufacturing location, and with the supplier’s process to meet the manufacturing location’s engineering specifications, and help the supplier meet those expectations via the AIAG Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).

* Ability to compare submitted supplier documentation against engineering requirements, to determine and decide their acceptability for production use.

* Expert leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback to an external supplier of direct material

* Expert ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawing, schematics and computer-generated reports

* Previous experience with computer applications and software related specialized and customized computer systems for PPAPs, including application of a suite of Microsoft office platforms for electronic transmission of documentation

* Aiag Core Tools Expectation - AIAG Core tools are seen as being fundamental in support of the automotive preferred quality system ISO/IATF 16949, and delivering satisfactory product quality.

* Basic Quality Tools - Use of Basic Quality Tools includes the ability to understand what quality tool is appropriate, ability to apply the Quality Tool, and the ability to analyze the data that results from use of the tool. Simple tools include Pareto analysis, histograms, control charts. More complex tools include tools such as Design of Experiments and Quality Function Deployment.

* Problem Solving And Quality Improvement - Problem Solving and Improvement approaches, including understanding of tools/process type and selection, plus Corrective and Preventive Action processes.

* The ideal candidate would also be familiar with numerous hardware component categories including high tensile, critical, & non- critical fasteners, metal tubes, hose/tube clamps, dowels, fluid fittings & related seals, and polymer/elastomeric tubes and hoses.
