Description **Surgical Veterinary Technician/ Somerville, NJ**

Kelly Services is currently seeking a Surgical Veterinary Technician for one of our top clients in Somerville, NJ. This position will be placed through our Kelly OCG program which will include benefits (medical/dental, paid time off, holidays, etc.).

As a Surgical Veterinary Technician placed with Kelly Services you will be responsible for assisting in/providing surgical technical support to activities within preclinical research.

**Key Job Responsibilities:**

+ Schedule facility and study activities in coordination with staff.
+ Supporting laboratories utilizing inanimate and cadaveric models, as well as providing support as needed to studies conducted at a CRO
+ Act as the histology coordinator responsible for the shipment of histological samples to and from the CRO in accordance to SOP. Prepare required paperwork and track samples from submission through receipt on site and submission back to the CRO. Prepare archive paperwork and archive samples as per SOP.
+ Adhere to all department and corporate SOPs assigned to the position curriculum.
+ Follow company standards for the Occupational Health and Safety Program for Preclinical Research.
+ Comply with safety policies and procedures and MSDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances. Ensure no violations of OSHA, Company, or Preclinical Research Safety and dress requirements. Complete all safety training assignments on-time.
+ Perform assigned monthly safety inspections.
+ Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and technologies.
+ Participate in the review of existing SOPs; and the development of new SOPs.
+ Ensure proper usage of equipment as per SOP and maintain logbooks for the inspection, maintenance, use, and non-routine maintenance of related equipment. Notify manager of equipment requiring outside service.
+ Maintain all assigned areas, including but not limited to tissue laboratories, in ready state. Ensure supplies are ordered for the anticipated activities through ARIBA and various other vendors, including:

+ Develop and maintain system for ordering/reorder limits. Develop and maintain system for reviewing expiration dates.

+ Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and disposable supplies.

+ Maintain required attendance level and adherence to work schedule.

+ Train junior staff as needed.

+ Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
**Job Requirements:**

+ The ideal candidate for the Veterinary Technician will have surgical experience working with laboratory animals in a research setting.
+ We will consider candidates who have worked as veterinary technicians in companion animal practices, especially those with CVT/LVT who have experience in surgical preparation, anesthesia administration and monitoring and are proficient in technical skills including IV, IM, IP, SQ and PO dosing as well as catheter placement.
+ A BS Degree in Veterinary Technology or related science and a minimum of two years related animal care and handling experience, including one-year surgical experience.
+ AALAS certification at the LAT level is preferred.
+ Veterinary Technician licensure of CVT or LVT preferred.
+ Strong Microsoft office knowledge needed.
+ Ability to manager projects and multitask.
