System & Network Administrator I

Installs, upgrades, diagnoses and repairs network software and hardware, such as email servers, file servers, print spoolers, domain controllers, switches and routers. This position documents network procedures, trains other IT personnel in network operations and performs user- and desktop-level duties as needed. The System & Network Administrator I may also participate in IT projects for the North Americas region. This person must also possess excellent communication, organization and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to prioritize, multi-task and make decisions under pressure and at times unsupervised in a fast-paced environment

Role and Responsibilities:

70% Installs, modifies, maintains and repairs server and network infrastructure

+ Assist in providing server/network support relating to software and hardware problems reported by users.

+ Maintain an adequate level of knowledge of operating system and application software being used to provide high levels of support to users.

+ Monitor and evaluate efficiency of software/hardware usage, providing items to be covered in training of users, making them more efficient.

+ Installs operating systems, such as Windows 2000/2003/2008, using disk management techniques (RAID, mirroring, etc.); implements domain designs, establishes permission hierarchies for groups of users, applies permission rules, etc.

+ Add and maintain users on the network; assigning file access, ensuring security, managing GPOs and maintaining their configurations are within standards.

+ Installs network server-side applications, such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Internet Information Server, Veritas Backup Exec, FSecure, etc.

+ Participate in Team meetings, providing input and suggestions, and prepare minutes of discussion items.

+ Setup and manage and maintain a large number of file movement processes via INI files.

+ Monitor and report licenses on applications to ensure compliance on a quarterly basis.

+ Make recommendations for new equipment and services to purchase and work with various vendors for procurement.

+ Diagnoses and repairs hardware failures, errors due to software mismatches, failure of queued tasks and similar unexpected issues; this may involve investigating, locating and using supplier support documentation.

+ Maintain, manage and diagnose MS SQL databases.

+ Insure that all MS patches are applied to all servers on a monthly basis.

+ Monitor load balance on servers and make recommendations accordingly.

+ Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested.

30% Provides technical assistance and training to system users and perform user- and desktop-level duties as needed.

+ Support for local help desk tickets for PC's affiliated with office users and machines throughout the facility.

+ Assist all PC users as needed in accordance with company training programs, instructing them in the use of equipment, software and manuals.

+ Answers users inquiries in person and via telephone concerning systems operation.

+ Investigates and implements warning techniques to highlight and fix malfunctions and other operational difficulties before they occur

+ Develops and implements procedures for all repetitive tasks (which may incorporate suppliers' documentation), and trains other IT staff members on basic duties

Qualifications and Education Requirements

+ Minimum of 2 years work experience and/or training in a MS Active Directory and Client/Server environment which includes in depth experience in system procurement, installation and configuration of servers, network hardware.

+ Must include basic experience with Microsoft Hyper-V, Cisco IOS, and a keen understanding of the concept of firewalls, VLANs, and IP routing.

+ A Bachelors degree in CIS or Computer Science, Microsoft MSCE, or Cisco CCNA certifications are highly preferred.

+ Technology platforms including Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Hyper-V, Backup Exec, Automate, and whats up monitoring.

+ Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, WINS, IPSec, FTP, SFTP, FTPS) and common diagnostic utilities (NetStat, Ping, TraceRt, etc.).
