Job Title: Systems Engineer I

Shift: M-F 8AM 5PM

Confirmed payrate: $40.00 - $43/Hour.

Duration of Assignment: 5 month Possible temp to hire depending on performance and business needs

Location Pittsburgh Pennsylvania (REMOTE )

Job Description

Smith and Nephew seeks a R&D Systems Engineer to drive the technical solutions and execute projects that leverage robotics technology for improving patient outcomes and economic value.

Smith and Nephew seeks a R&D Robotics Systems Engineer to participate in system definition through translation of customer needs into product requirements, system architecture development and system-level verification and validation planning. The R&D Systems Engineer will bring clear sense of urgency and demonstrated track record of driving innovation leading to the introduction of new technologies in the marketplace. Systems engineers serve as the interface between Healthcare Professionals, Marketing representatives, and Engineering teams to ensure technical excellence of product designs.

The Systems Engineer reports to the Senior Director, Systems and position will be based in Pittsburgh.

Position Functions

Perform system engineering and requirements management duties as part of cross-functional project teams:

o Own requirements development for new features and feature upgrades

o Maintain product requirements

o Maintain traceability between requirements and from requirements to test activities

o Publish requirements deliverables

o Participate in verification and validation planning

o Support pre-clinical and clinical evaluations

o Support system engineering and requirements management process improvements within the systems organization.

o Remain current with the knowledge and practice of systems engineering and requirements management.


Bachelors degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering or equivalent; Graduate degree preferred


A minimum of 1 year experience in systems engineering and requirements management or 0-1 year with Master's degree.

A good understanding of design control and/or development of products in a regulated medical device industry.

Track record of successfully bringing products from concept to market on schedule & within budget is preferred.

Experience in computer assisted surgery or robotics preferred.


Understanding of hardware-software systems, requirements leveling, and interface requirements

Interest in utilizing Model Based Systems Engineering techniques to define product architecture and derive product requirements

Persistent, determined, self-motivated, keen to make an impact

Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with applicable FDA regulations and Company operating procedures, processes, policies and tasks

Ability to work within a cross-functional team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment

Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization

Experience using Cognition Cockpit, DOORS or other requirements management tool
