**Kelly Services is currently seeking a Technical Manager-Virology for a Direct Hire role in Manassas, VA**


+ The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing the activities of a scientific group.

+ They coordinate the production and transfer of organisms and related products.

+ The Technical Manager may identify, audit, and select contractors and then oversee, manage, and report their work to produce reagents, organisms, and services to support contract research and development.

+ The Technical Manager manages the costs, methods and staffing within the applied contract and makes decisions within organizational policy on how best to utilize resources to achieve goals.

+ The Technical Manager has hands-on experience working to fulfill deliverables, in addition to overseeing projects through the various stages.


Responsibilities


+ Oversee and direct the activities of a scientific group in the research and/or development of the organization s products, projects, and/or programs.

+ Collaborate on establishing project parameters and product specifications for materials produced through outside contracts.

+ Review and recommend changes to technology and production standard operating procedures.

+ Ensure appropriate documentation of the production, storage and distribution of contract-related organisms and related products.

+ Manage the cost effectiveness of the functional area to include external contract management, supplies, time charging, and resources.

+ Determine how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.

+ Participate in the annual budget process to provide input on capital expenditures and labor.

+ Work closely with other departments to ensure proper transfer of materials both internally and externally.

+ Communicate cross-functional progress, updates, and challenges to Senior Management, integrated project staff and customers.

+ Conduct and collaborate with others on basic research and development relevant to long-term objectives and concerns.

+ Develop strategies and goals to ensure the effective achievement of scientific objectives and timely delivery of products and documentation to internal and external customers.

+ Monitor and evaluate completion of tasks and projects.

+ Make final decisions on administrative or operational matters.

+ Manage the activities of supervisors and individual contributors.

+ Monitor performance, development and staffing of department incumbents within organizational policy.

+ Makes recommended changes to policy and procedure, when appropriate.


Qualifications Education and Experience:


+ Bachelors degree and 7 or more years experience, including 2 or more years supervisory experience or equivalent experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


+ Experience in both troubleshooting and production environment is helpful.

+ The position requires communication with external vendors/clients as well as internal departments and personnel.

+ Previous supervisory experience required.

+ Experience in virology specifically production of viruses, with strong molecular biology skills and familiarity in sequence analysis including NGS
