Description **Technical Support Specialist - Scientific, San Diego, CA**

**Position Summary:** Assists customers by answering inquiries or complaints including sample interpretation and investigating possible product performance. Conducts complex laboratory testing in support of investigations. Provides literature to customers and sales/ marketing departments on products and technology, disease conditions and clinical manifestations. Works closely with Quality Systems to ensure compliance during the documentation and closure in the Complaint Handling Process. Maintains the Technical service related quality systems (complaints, inquiries, RGA) by entering up to date information and providing timely reports on their status.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**


+ Handles internal and external global customer questions by telephone, e-mail and/or fax according to written procedures.
+ Maintains complaints information in SAP
+ Maintains instrument service call information in SAP
+ Documents customer complaints and questions according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and FDA and other regulatory agency guidelines, based on the electronic Complaint Handling Systems.
+ Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.
+ Performs complex laboratory complaint investigations.
+ Follows established safety and environmental procedures. Reports all safety hazards immediately.
+ Provide expert advice to customers and sales force on product use and automation.
+ Other duties may be assigned.
**Job Requirements:**


+ Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in the biological or related sciences or; with four (4) or more years of applicable laboratory experience. In some instances, exceptions to the years of experience can be made based on management discretion.
+ Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree.
+ Good laboratory skills.
+ Knowledge of and ability to perform immunofluorescence, Ouchterlony and ELISA procedures is desirable.
+ Good oral and written communication skills and computer skills are required.
+ Good understanding of quality and regulatory compliance.
+ Experience or inclination to learn and understand instrument automation and run tests both manually and on automated systems.
+ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, scientific journal articles, technical documents and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, procedures and communication to customers in a cohesive manner with language command both orally and in writing.
+ Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate concentrations, dilutions, proportions, percentages, rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve chemistry and dilution equations. Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry and statistics to work related problems.
+ Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to design, conduct, interpret and report results of experiments.
