Description **Technical Writer, contract to hire opportunity**

**Washington, DC 20005**

Supports the development, implementation and maintenance of knowledge management solutions, particularly those that improve the user experience for intranet and extranet users.

Writes, edits, proofreads and manages digital content and provides editorial and content-related training and support to internal and external subject matter experts, content creators and users of knowledge assets, enabling them to complete their work more quickly, easily and efficiently.

**Primary job functions include the following:**

+ Creates, reviews, edits, formats and updates content for policy and procedure manuals and other reference materials.
+ Researches and interprets source documents.
+ Integrates complex technical information, converting it to reference material that is accessible to all levels of staff.
+ Assists with formatting and other technical aspects of production.
+ Develops, implements and manages knowledge assets using component content management software and other applications.
+ Supports the development and implementation of innovative knowledge-management tools and techniques to continuously optimize processes, procedures and tools associated with the creation, sharing and management of digital content for internal and external stakeholders.
+ Supports the design, development and maintenance of intranet and extranet websites.
+ Develops content-related training materials in multiple formats and conducts training via in-person sessions, webinars and videos.
+ Provides technical and editorial support to staff.
**Experience Required:**

+ Communications, English, journalism or related discipline or equivalent work experience
+ Minimum 6 years of technical writing, web content writing, organizational writing and/or other pertinent writing experience
+ Minimum 2 years of experience in knowledge management, content management or web content management
+ Knowledge management education or training
+ Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat
+ Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Word
**Experience preferred:**

+ Experience writing, editing and proofreading multiple types of print and online documents, including policies and procedures
+ Experience working in the health insurance industry
+ Experience working with component content management software
+ Experience converting unstructured print-oriented content to topic-oriented, web-based content
+ Experience creating microsites
+ Experience creating training material
+ Experience teleworking (if employee chooses to telework)
+ Experience working independently, with minimal supervision
+ Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and individuals with widely varying backgrounds and skill sets.
+ Demonstrated record of knowledge-management or content-related process improvement
+ Familiar with Associated Press style

Bachelor’s Degree

Completes all projects and ad hoc assignments in ways that reflect initiative, curiosity, a commitment to continuous quality improvement, and an overall dedication to excellence.
