**JOB TITLE: Tool & Die Maker**



**WORKING HOURS: 7:00 am 3:30 pm**



**PAY RATE: 24.00 26.00 per hour Depending on experience**



**ASSIGNMENT DURATION: 3 4 months, then potential hire to full time.**



**Summary:**





**Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.**







**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**






+ **Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; adjust as necessary.**






+ **Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools.**






+ **File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.**






+ **Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, fixtures and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.**






+ **Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.**






+ **Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.**






+ **Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, and rulers.**






+ **Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance.**






+ **Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.**






+ **Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.**






+ **Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders.**






+ **Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.**






+ **Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.**






+ **Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications.**






+ **Cast plastic tools or parts, or tungsten-carbide cutting tips, using pre-made molds.**






+ **Design jigs, fixtures, work holding devices, carts, work tables and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication and assembly of parts or products.**






+ **Develop and design new tools and dies, using computer-aided design software.**






+ **Set pyrometer controls of heat-treating furnaces, and feed or place parts, tools, or assemblies into furnaces to harden.**






+ **Ability to follow instructions, and management directive.**






+ **Ensure a safe working environment, good housekeeping and 5s for your respective area and all of VBI and Ricon.**







**QUALIFICATIONS:**






+ **Previous experience with Tool & Die Making highly preferred**






+ **Ability to review blue prints and identify tools needed for machining parts**






+ **Can development of go - no go gages.**






+ **Understand measurement tools, different types of welding, machining concepts**






+ **Can use sketches, blueprints, specifications and models to plan operations for the fabrication of dies, tools and assemblies, ensuring safety and maximum efficiency**






+ **Using measurement tools verify dimensions of finished parts to ensure they conform to specifications using dial indicators, gauge blocks, calipers and micrometers**






+ **Can utilize hand and machine tools to assemble parts of tools and dies and to repair and modify gauges, jigs and dies**






+ **Ability to design templates and jigs to be used as work aids for convenient fabrication of products and parts**






+ **Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on tools, manually operated dies and progressive dies**






+ **Interface with external and internal customers, handle supplier and customer concerns, and work with team members to solve problems during the production process**






+ **File and finish workpieces using the appropriate hand tools to ensure products are smooth and that they fit together properly**






+ **Select the appropriate metals and materials to be used based on properties, ensuring they meet project specifications**





**EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:**






+ **High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and Technical Associates Degree highly preferred.**

+ **Ability to read and interpret blueprints of a technical nature, BOMs, leadership capabilities, and be a problem solver.**

+ **3 6 years of work-related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.**

+ **Have basic shop math skills, and ability to read and interpret blueprints, knowledge of Manufacturing software.**







**PHYSICAL DEMANDS:**






+ **The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.**








+ **Working Environment/Environmental Hazards: (While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather). The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and work near moving mechanical parts.**






+ **The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.**
