Description Tooling Design Engineer (Cleveland, Ohio)
Our client, an integrated manufacturer of quality, custom injection molded components and highly engineered tooling, is currently hiring a Tooling Design Engineer.

This position is a Direct Hire role.

The Engineer will coordinate engineering and technical activities concerned with the design, development, fabrication, and implementation of tooling and equipment. They will also utilize the best engineering practices, policies, and procedures to coordinate the tooling and equipment development activities for new processes, products, and current production.

Responsibilities:
Designs plastic injection tooling, aerospace tooling, production fixturing, and consumer products
Creates 3D models, 2D drawings, BOM, Gantt charts, process sheets
Leads projects, sets expectations, engages, guides, and provides support to toolmakers and CNC programmers in order to meet project deadlines
Leads DFM meetings to ensure that the customer's technical needs are met
Develops and coordinates tool due diligence to ensure manufacturability
Supports tool shop activity to ensure fabrication is to specifications, process needs, cost requirements and schedules
Supports injection molding with fixtures, gages, end of arm tooling (EOAT), and other basic tool support.
Leads root cause analysis efforts and defines cost reduction plans
Coordinates and conducts tool trials for process development and prototype supply
Evaluates potential engineering changes to the products and what tooling changes are required, implements tool design models and drawings as required.
Defines the critical criteria required for primary equipment specification and quotation, including material handling equipment, tonnage, and special construction requirements
Develops, proposes and implements tooling and equipment improvements to foster an environment of continuous improvement
Performs necessary functions to adhere to ISO standards
Provides Quality Department with documentation and models for inspection purposes
Provides tooling and special equipment training to operators
Reports on all process development and tool design activities relative to achieving targets, risks and deficiencies to project team and management
Supports sales and quoting activity
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering environment
Deep understanding of design for manufacturing, tooling technology, assembly, fabrication
Fluent in change controls
Knowledge of fundamental manufacturing methods, like plastic injection, CNC machining, EDM, rapid prototyping, automation, robotics, 3D printing, etc.
Familiarity with design of basic assembly equipment and fixtures
Proficiency with CAD/CAM software; KeyCreator and Solidworks
Customer focused from both an internal and external perspective
Proficiency in geometric tolerance, quality assurance, and quality management systems
Fluent in the use of a continuous improvement tools & techniques; ISO standards a plus
