Program Aide/ Virtual Learning- Salvation Army



Job Summary-Provides care services for minors aged 4 years to 13 years. These services include but not limited to personal care, hygiene, learning a and development activities and specialized programs; prepares and maintains records; maintains cleanliness and orderliness of child c care property.





**_Essential Functions_**






**Youth Development (50%)**






+ Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.

+ Performs learning and development activities which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas enriched with program-specific activities, including teach-made materials and hands-on activities.

+ Determines appropriate supplies and materials for learning and development activities and recreational activities; ensures the childrens safety in utilizing the same.

+ Assist children with usage of computers, iPads, and tablets during learning activities.

+ Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.

+ Organizes and supervises recreational activities; observes, monitors, and supervises children in the facility.

+ Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.

+ Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.)

+ Reports all accidents and incidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.

+ Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents; informs parents of childrens progress and specific incidents.

+ Follows guidelines provided in employee manual and departmental handbooks.






**Classroom Management (30%)**




+ Monitors and ensures that children remain on task for activities. Assist in learning opportunities for children.

+ Supervises the washing of childrens hands, and faces when needed, after play activities and after bathroom usage.

+ Monitors and ensures the personal hygiene of the children, including toilet assistance; adheres to sanitary procedures including but not limited to labeling of cots, cribs, cubbies, and storing bedding and clothing in the proper manner.

+ Maintains the classroom materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any laundry and supplies necessary for classroom programs.

+ Straightens the classroom each day before leaving; closes and locks all closets and cabinets, and turns off lights; cleans necessary furniture, equipment, and toys in accordance with established sanitary standards; notifies the supervisor of broken or missing supplies immediately.






**Other Responsibilities (20%)**




+ Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.

+ Serves as a substitute teacher for other classes when needed **.**

+ Assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times.

+ Collects, reviews, and reports monthly statistical data representing department services; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.

+ Ability to operate and generally maintain all office equipment. This would include, but is not limited to the copier, fax machine, and computers.

+ Have an essential proficiency with Windows & Microsoft Office, which includes Microsoft Word and Excel.

+ Have an essential proficiency with KidCheck and CCMS.

+ Ability to interact professionally with all contact with the public and Salvation Army Officers and staff.

+ Abide by Salvation Army Policies and Procedures and have an acceptance of Salvation Army philosophy and mission.

+ Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.

+ Ability to deal comfortably with stressful situations.

+ Ability to multi-task, ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a safe and effective manner; must be able to adhere to safe practices.

+ Ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. Must be able to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

+ Performs other related work as required.

+ **Performs other duties as assigned.**

**_Knowledge, Skills, Abilities_**







+ Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.

+ Ability to monitor children activities to ensure their health and safety.

+ Ability to response to emergency situations in a calm and appropriate manner.

+ Ability to teach children Christian values.

+ Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with limited supervision.






**_Education and Experience_**



High School diploma; G.E.D. required,



and



6 months experience providing adult supervision to children preferred,



or



any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities






**_Certifications_**




+ Must have a Valid Drivers License.

+ CPR/First Aid

+ Blood Borne Pathogens








**_Physical Requirements/Working Conditions_**






+ Ability to meet attendance requirements.






+ Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.






+ Ability to observe children and ensure their safety.






+ Ability to lift, hold, and carry toddlers on a regular basis.






+ Ability to swim.






+ Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light (less than 25lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Light mobility; duties are usually performed by a combination of standing, walking, and primarily sitting.





**W** **orking Conditions:**






+ Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
