We are seeking a Sr. Director/VP of Program Management for one of our clients, a biotechnology company in Vancouver, WA, that is leveraging deep learning and synthetic biology in the drug discovery and development process. The incumbent will report to the Chief Technology Officer and will join the senior technical leadership team to provide critical strategic and day-to-day project management support to many partner programs and internal R&D initiatives. This individual is accountable for ensuring the completion of program deliverables on schedule and on budget and plays a critical role in all aspects of the project life cycle (early program scoping and budgeting, monitoring program progress, overcoming bottlenecks and obstacles, providing updates to various stakeholders, and collaborating effectively with various departments). The ideal candidate has extensive experience in overseeing program management teams in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting and has a working familiarity with technologies and approaches employed in these settings. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, pragmatic, self-directed, extremely organized, has excellent collaboration skills, a creative approach to problem-solving, and can execute nimbly and efficiently in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate is also an effective leader who can run effective cross-team collaborations and can manage, mentor, and inspire direct and in-direct reports.


+ Lead and mentor members of the Program Management Team, managing the team to ensure execution against cost, schedule, and deliverables on internal R&D initiatives and partnered programs with aggressive timelines, all while maintaining a strong emphasis on quality, sustainability, and safety

+ Ensure that workplans and program scoping/planning documents (e.g., budget forecasts, staffing requirements, go-no/go points, deliverables, etc.) are being pulled together in a timely manner through engagement with relevant stakeholders

+ Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of activities across multiple projects with potentially competing resources to enable the collective programs in the portfolio to meet critical milestones and corporate objectives

+ Implement, maintain, and continually improve project management systems for team communication, information sharing, planning, scheduling, tracking of goals/milestones, resource utilization, and cost management across the portfolio programs

+ Development of demand and capacity resourcing models to understand organizational constraints and bottlenecks

+ Ensure the timely generation of reports, presentations, dashboards, and summaries for a variety of stakeholders

+ Help the team identify activities on the critical path and work with various stakeholders to proactively identify issues and identify mitigations all while keeping the team aligned to the key objective

+ Establish formal and ad hoc internal processes to facilitate project decision points, anticipate challenges and strive for the alignment of team members and project goals

+ Serve as neutral facilitator, communicating in a timely and open fashion both horizontally and vertically to achieve transparency of project progress and lead to resolve conflicts in good faith

+ Effectively interface with collaborators on other scientific teams or other teams within the organization (finance, business development, alliance management, and legal)

+ Set clear performance expectations and hold self, team, and larger technical organization accountable for achieving results

+ MS degree or higher in a relevant life science discipline

+ 10+ years of experience in project management in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical setting

+ Demonstrable track record of effective scientific, operational, and team leadership in an industry setting with a high pace of innovation

+ Proven track record of strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills applied in a biotechnology setting

+ Experience supporting diverse project types, irrespective of complexity, technology, novelty, or pace

+ Effective at conveying a vision, energizing others, establishing goals, delegating when appropriate, mentoring and coaching

+ Demonstrates strong leadership presence, influencing skills, and sense of urgency

+ Experience leading large groups of cross functional personnel with complex operational objectives

+ Strong organizational skills and demonstrated excellence in the planning and execution of strategies for project management, with a very hands-on approach

+ Ability to work autonomously, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously as well as effectively manage scope, time, and cost of assigned projects

+ Passion for building a gritty and creative company culture that is collaborative, multidisciplinary, and determined to make a transformative impact to our industry

+ Broad understanding of the drug discovery development process

+ Background in recombinant protein expression (especially coli) is a plus

+ Background in managing projects where machine learning or AI models are leveraged for discovery applications is a strong plus
